This Monday marked the unofficial end of summer with Labor Day weekend coming and going in a haze of picnics and barbecues and girls trying to wear their favorite white outfits one last time. But if you have a white dress or coat or even pair of jeans. never fear because you CAN keep wearing it! We, alongside a number of other fashion editors and bloggers, are all about white for the fall and winter, and we’re going to show you how to rock it.
When it comes to wearing white, I say wear it all year round—winter white, especially, is fresh and unexpected during the colder seasons – Rachel Zoe, Stylist
Here are our tips for rocking white in a variety of ways this fall:
The key with white jeans is to balance them out with pops of color and pattern! We love these Suki white boot cut jeans from Silver Jeans, which are universally flattering and would look great with a pair of tan booties and a plaid shirt for daytime apple picking, but could look equally chic with a black top and cage heels.
White work trousers can bring out the Gladiator in all of us, and with Scandal starting again this month, there is nothing scandalous about white suit separates at work. For the truly brave, you can try an all-white suit a la Olivia Pope, but we also love white trouser pants with colored accents. A bold purse like this one from Kate Spade or a jewel tone cami from Tibi are great options. Or pair white with other neutral colors like tan and camel for a simple palette of chic neutrals. The Glitter Guide recommends a camel trench coat and light grey sweater for this ensemble.
For this and the next season, there is nothing more glamorous than a rich white winter coat. So long as you can keep it clean in the slush and snow, this is the perfect cold weather statement piece. We love these options from Land’s End at Shopstyle or a splurgeworthy classic like this style from Nordstrom.
Make your white summer dress – like this gorgeous one from Zimmerman – go further by layering them under a leather jacket or thick wrap sweater for fall. Or choose “ heavier, more luxurious fabrics and creamier shades make the once-summery hue seem completely appropriate for the cooler months,” says Allyson Payer from Who What Wear. Or, just add sleeves!
