TELL US A LITTLE ABOUT YOUR JOB!
I am the Founding Partner at ParadigmNEXT, a digital branding and marketing consulting agency. I oversee the creative team and operations. ParadigmNEXT works with companies ranging from start-ups to multi-national corporations on building their digital presence. I joined my husband’s team in 2010 when they were just rolling out their first app start-up, and since then we have worked on multiple projects together including ParadigmNEXT.
HOW CAN WOMEN MARKET THEMSELVES TO HAVE A SUCCESSFUL CAREER?
I think it’s important to create real relationships with peers and mentors. I believe in the power of social media but there is nothing better than an off-line interaction to make a lasting impression, which becomes friendships and connections. I started networking in college by attending alumni events, which helped tremendously in my career path. I also got involved with multiple non-profits to expand my networking circle even more.
WHAT ARE SOME TIPS YOU HAVE FOR NETWORKING EFFECTIVELY?
Don’t use the time to sell your product or service; Instead, get to know the person in front of you. You might be surprised what opportunities you will discover if you just listen instead of pitch. When you send an email follow up, that is the time to send any professional info you would like to include.
HOW DO YOU BALANCE HAVING A HEALTHY WORK AND PERSONAL LIFE?
You have to really unplug when you return home at the end of the day. You also have to make time with friends and family. NO PHONE! NO EMAILS! NO BASECAMP! LOL o
WHAT IS THE BEST ADVICE YOU’VE EVER RECEIVED?
If you are the smartest person in the room, you are in the wrong room.
