Another Monday, another fabulous and utterly inspirational woman with a career that the rest of us day dream about while we sit at our 9-5 desk jobs. Whitney Reynolds is a trifecta of TV Host, Executive producer and even runs the business operations of her show. From her entrepreneurial spirit to creating her own jewelry line and beyond, we’re delving into the brain of a business guru who’s not afraid of working hard to achieve her dreams.
Whitney, take it away!
HOW DID YOU GET STARTED IN THE TV INDUSTRY?
I always knew I would one day have my own talk show, just didn’t exactly know my path to get here. Growing up I made a conscious effort to learn from the best, work for strongest and advance fast. When I moved to Chicago after being a morning anchor in Texas, I knew this was my chance.
HOW DID YOU END UP IN YOUR CURRENT POSITION?
I created it. I knew no talk shows in the number 3 market (Chicago) would hire a 23 year-old, so I made my own. That was the start of my show!
WHAT IS YOUR DAY-TO-DAY JOB LIKE?
I feel like I’m always running in heels. I not only host the show, but I also act as the Executive Producer and run the business operations. Let’s just say, “there’s no lunch break.”
WHAT’S THE BIGGEST CHALLENGE YOU’VE HAD TO OVERCOME IN YOUR CAREER AND HOW DID YOU DO IT?
Growth. You can’t have your full vision overnight and it was crucial not to rush the process. Even if you’re taking baby steps forward, you are still moving the right direction.
WHAT’S THE MOST IMPORTANT THING YOU’VE LEARNED IN YOUR CAREER?
Being a nice person matters. You never know who’s watching you (on or off air) and being kind to people is like driving an ice cream truck, people are attracted to it.
WHAT HAS BEEN THE BIGGEST SUCCESS IN YOUR CAREER SO FAR?
Landing my evening, weeknight timeslot on PBS!
WHAT IS THE BEST CAREER ADVICE YOU’VE EVER RECEIVED?
You are your brand!
WHAT ADVICE DO YOU HAVE FOR WOMEN WHO MIGHT WANT TO FOLLOW IN YOUR CAREER FOOTSTEPS?
Think outside of the box. If the door doesn’t open, climb through that window.
WE LOVE THAT A LOT OF YOUR WORK IS ALSO DEDICATED TO INSPIRING WOMEN; HAS THERE BEEN ANY WOMEN THAT HAVE BEEN PARTICULARLY INSPIRING TO YOU OVER THE COURSE OF YOUR LIFETIME AND CAREER?
There are many strong faces that come to mind. One person I could not live without is my Supervising Producer, Sheryl Rosen. She’s had my back from online to primetime! She always pulls more out, pushes me harder and encourages my growth.
CAN YOU TELL ME MORE ABOUT YOUR JEWELRY LINE AND HOW YOU GOT INTO THAT BUSINESS?
Accessory Mercado By Whitney Reynolds just launched last November. We wanted to share our style and love for a good deal with the world. We want women to feel confident with every piece they rock and not break the bank.
YOU’VE ACCOMPLISHED MANY IMPRESSIVE ACCOLADES- DO YOU HAVE ANY FAVORITE MOMENTS AMONG THEM?
Being asked to emcee this fall with the President and CEO of PBS. Who would have thought! I also love dabbling in radio and I’m so happy 103.5 KISSFM let’s me have my segment “Whitney’s Women.”
YOUR SHOW IS DEDICATED TO MAKING POSITIVE CHANGES- ARE THERE ANY PARTICULAR CAUSES THAT ARE ESPECIALLY IMPORTANT TO YOU?
Topics that need attention and folks aren’t talking about. If someone has a story that can change lives, we want to tell it.
WHAT’S UP NEXT FOR WHITNEY REYNOLDS?
I want to grow the show’s markets, become a stronger interviewer and learn how to cook.
