You might know her from E! Entertainment’s Rich Kids of Beverly Hills reality show, but there is much more to Roxy Sowlaty than shopping sprees and extravagant vacations. She launched her first fashion company before most of us graduate high school and has been on the go ever since! This lady is a true superstar (not just a reality TV one) with degrees under her belt from schools like The Parsons New School of Design and interior design clients in LA, NYC and Aspen…plus a seriously strong social media game. She’s #awesome and she’s giving us an insight into how she does it…
YOU STARTED YOUR CAREER SO YOUNG! WHAT MADE YOU STILL WANT TO PURSUE COLLEGE DEGREES AFTER THAT?
Education has always been something my family ingrained as an integral part of my career. Knowledge is power, so educating yourself in your chosen career path only lends itself to investing in your own success. So with that ideology, I would not begin my professional career without going to college and learning as much as I can first!
HOW DO YOU BALANCE WORK AND FUN NOW?
I’ve always been such a multitask-er! I work a lot but I also always leave weekends free for winding down and having fun. Balance is key!
WHAT ARE YOUR TIPS FOR HAVING A CAREER BUT ALSO MAKING TIME FOR YOURSELF?
I think starting my day with a 7am workout is something that got me to start my days early. The extra morning hours help me in allowing time for myself! I really try to shut off work by 7pm on week nights, and leave my evenings for fun, non-work related festivities. Creating time boundaries helps me get my work done in a timely fashion and balance work and play 🙂
NOW TO FASHION! HOW WOULD YOU DESCRIBE YOUR STYLE?
I think my style is situational, eclectic, trendy, sometimes a little outlandish, fun and cute. My style defiantly reflects my mood and what I’m dressing for. Sometimes I’ll look like a teenager in a floral dress, and other times I’ll be in an all black nyc ensemble… I never take my clothing style too seriously and just like to have fun with what I wear.
WHAT ARE YOUR TIPS FOR MIXING HIGH AND LOW STYLES?
Mixing high and low end styles is the crux of how I dress. Half my wardrobe is Topshop and Zara. I’ll wear a cute Topshop dress with a nice bag and heels for a kitchy but polished look. I always opt for high end shoes and bags, but love mixing in low end clothes! A high price tag doesn’t make something cute or chic, it’s all about how you wear and mix things together!
HOW DOES THIS APPLY TO HOME DECOR?
The same philosophy applies to designing homes. I always go for an expensive or higher end sofa, but mix lower price point pieces all around it. I love bargain hunting for furniture on the Internet. I find great vintage pieces on eBay and one Kings Lane and mix them with CB2, Overstock, West Elm, World Market and Target finds! No one ever knows!!! The goal in home decor is to look collected – not like you bought everything from the same expensive (or cheap) store!
AND HOW DO YOU KEEP YOUR CLOSET ORGANIZED?
The most imperative thing to make your closet look organized is using the same hangars through out and organizing by color!
WE HAVE TO ASK ABOUT THE SHOW! WHAT HAS BEEN YOUR FAVORITE EPISODE TO FILM?
I think my favorite episode watching back was chandelier shopping with Morgan when she called me out for not knowing who Liberace is… That was a serious moment LOL
