Who has dealt with acne-prone, sensitive skin, and is self-conscious about it? Are you willing to try any cream, ointment, or pill to fix it? You’re not alone! Bethany McDaniel dealt with these problems in high school and college, but it wasn’t until she turned to natural methods that she started to see results. She is now sharing her expertise with us, thanks to her line, Primarilly Pure! Primally Pure is a 100% natural and organic skincare line, made with only the highest quality ingredients from nature, that offers safe and effective products. Her line smells good, looks great, and gives you excellent results. What’s not to love?
How did you first concept the idea for Primally Pure?
Once I started making skincare products for myself and my family, so many people told me to sell them. I loved what I was doing but didn’t have much interest in making a business out of it. Eventually, I succumbed to the peer pressure and decided to get serious about it. I bounced ideas around with friends and family and eventually decided on Primally Pure for the business name and made things official with a website!
We do comprehensive searches when sourcing new ingredients. This involves a ton of research online and trying as many samples as possible before committing to a source. We also try to connect with small farms (local ones whenever possible) to source from – there’s nothing quite like being able to see the orange trees that our neroli hydrosol is harvested from, or the bee hives our local honey comes from (the honey is for a new product we have in the works)!
How do you create not only a product, but a lifestyle brand?
This part of developing our brand was/is SUCH a process! I started out with labels that a friend of mine designed for free. My vision at the time was very different than my vision for the company now, which I’m sure is evident to anyone who has seen the product labels we started out with. The brand has evolved over time as I’ve un-cluttered my style and life and started gravitating more towards simple, clean things. I’ve also always been interested in creating a community around Primally Pure and trying to really connect with our customers and their interests through our blog and social media.
What are some of your favorite products in the line?
I couldn’t live without our deodorant, lip balm, face mists and dry shampoo! I’m most proud of our deodorant – it’s our best-seller and also the first product I ever created.
What do you do for “me time”?
I’m big on baths and try to take one every night! Our Sea Soak is my favorite bath product for its detoxification and skin-soothing properties. I also try to get outside and run or find different ways to move my body a few times a week. It’s always a struggle to make time for myself, but my brain is always so much sharper and I’m able to give more to those around me when I do.
What’s the best part of your job?
One of the most rewarding things about my job is reading/seeing the positive feedback we receive from people who have tried our products as a last resort, not expecting to see results only to be blown away by how well our products work for them.
And the toughest?
Nothing is ever as easy as it seems like it should be. With every new endeavor, there are always a ton of unseen hurdles to overcome and sometimes it seems like too much to handle. But the feeling when everything finally comes together (with a new product, website launch, project, etc.) is SO worth it.
What advice would give to your younger self?
A lot of things but I probably wouldn’t have listened to any of them!
I would have told myself to not care so much about what other people think, that your dreams are within reach, and to not be afraid to fail…just to name a few! Ultimately, I’m so grateful for the path I had to go on in order to figure these things out on my own. It’s easy to blow off advice, but lessons learned from experiences are what truly shape you into the person you’re meant to be.
My current worldview is the result of a lot of failure, wasted time and wrong turns – but I can look back now and see that everything I went through taught me lessons that have been priceless in business and in life.
