In a world of leather jackets, edgy prints and cozy knits, Marissa Eisele, Marketing and Communications Manager of AllSaints, is our fashion girl on fire. The brand recently opened a stand-alobe Chicago location in the Gold Coast, bringing the signature AllSaints DNA throughout, including 88 of the iconic sewing machines in the store front. And though she’s an LA girl working for a UK brand, Eisele was more than happy to talk Chicago fashion and share career advice with us Windy City ladies…
HOW DID YOU START IN THE FASHION INDUSTRY?
I actually haven’t always been in fashion, although my education started me in that direction. I attended Terry J. Lundgren (CEO of Macy’s) Center for Retailing and Consumer Sciences at the University of Arizona, then I was off to entertainment at talent agency CAA, editorial at Vanity Fair and even a creative agency.
WHAT LED YOU TO WORK WITH ALLSAINTS?
I have always been such a believer in the brand and a fan of it myself, so when I heard there was a marketing and communications position open from a colleague at Vanity Fair I knew it was too good to be true!
WHAT SETS ALLSAINTS APART IN THE FASHION WORLD?
From the perspective of womenswear, AllSaints is a brand that allows women to be themselves. I think the clothes allow you to embrace your feminine side as well as your edgy side, and I love that. We also are a younger brand compared to other fashion houses so I think as a fashion house born into the 90’s it has positioned us as digital natives, so we can adapt better to the changing retail environment.
HOW CAN WOMEN TRY NEW STYLES THIS SEASON?
I think mixing and matching is a great way to try a new style this season, especially in this transitional time with weather. Grab your new AllSaints Gidley Biker jacket and throw it over a feminine silk summer dress. I think the unexpected combination makes it more fresh and easy to wear into autumn!
THE STORE WILL ALSO SELL HANDBAGS! TELL US ABOUT THIS EXTENSION OF THE BRAND.
This is something I am very excited about! I am a complete bag snob and these bags are the best of the best. They are made from the highest quality calfskin leather, shearling and suede and some of the handles are inspired by our infamous leather jacket braided detail. They are amazing quality and so chic, all under $400, which is great for me so I can get more then one : ) Currently lusting over the bansho patchwork cross body!
YOU’RE LOCATED IN THE GOLD COAST AREA. HOW DID YOU PICK THAT LOCATION?
We wanted to create a more intimate and personalized shopping experience. We used to be on Michigan Avenue and were ready to bring AllSaints new collection store to a more “neighborhood” type street and position it around amazing restaurants and art galleries, not only retail shops. We are also still on Michigan though, inside the Bloomingdales!
WHAT DO YOU THINK DEFINES CHICAGO STYLE?
Looking amazing in cold weather! I have seen the chicest women in the coldest of months and that is not an easy task!
WHAT ADVICE WOULD YOU HAVE FOR SOMEONE LOOKING TO START IN THE FASHION INDUSTRY?
Internships. Make a list of brands you admire and cold call and get into one of them. Once there, help out in every area of the business you can, and by the end of the summer you will have a better idea of what you like and don’t like. Trial by fire!
WHAT ARE FIVE THINGS EVERY WOMAN SHOULD HAVE IN HER CLOSET?
A leather jacket, a pair of booties, wearable heels, black leather bag and a great hat
WHAT IS YOUR PERSONAL STYLE MANTRA?
Accessories are key!
WHAT IS THE BEST PART ABOUT YOUR JOB?
I get to be immersed in the culture of a brand I love and am always looking to the future to find new ways to grow and expand the identity of AllSaints.
AND THE TOUGHEST?
Wish I got to meet my new friends in the UK headquarters!
