I was about 12 when I decided I wanted to start shaving my legs. Every time I bugged by mom about buying me my first razor and giving me a quick tutorial, she told me not to rush this grooming milestone, promising me that once I started, I wouldn’t be able to stop, and that I’d be sick of it after a matter of months.
Like moms always are, she was right. I hate shaving, and I tend to go a few days longer than I should between shaving my legs most times, because ain’t nobody got time for that, especially now that I’m a mom myself. I’ve tried waxing, but it hurts like hell (I swear the one Brazilian I had was about as painful as childbirth), it gets expensive, and salon appointments can be time consuming. I’ve looked into electrolysis, but there are a lot of other ways I’d like to spend a few hundred dollars, thank you.
Long story short, I was thrilled when I was offered a chance to try the Silk’n Flash & Go hair removal system (about as thrilled as I was that first time I got to shave my legs). It’s sort of like the super-expensive salon hair removal treatments in that it uses pulsed light technology to get rid of hair for good … except that you do it at home and it doesn’t cost a fortune. AND based on reviews I read on Amazon and Ulta, it actually worked.
Even more exciting: The Flash & Go can be used almost anywhere on the body, including the upper lip, underarms, bikini line, legs, and arms, and each session takes just a few minutes to complete. (If you try it, read the directions first for a list of areas where the device shouldn’t be used!)
Since it’s summer, I decided to give the Flash & Go a try on my legs first. It was incredibly easy to set up — I literally just plugged it into the wall.
I turned the device to the right setting based on my hair and skin color (a level 4 out of 5 levels), and got to work. I’ll admit: I was a little nervous to try it at first because I thought it was going to hurt and I’m a baby. But, once I got over it and gave it a whirl, it wasn’t bad at all. I felt a tiny little stinging sensation with each flash, accompanied by the smell of slightly singed hair (kind of like when you get your hair stuck in the blowdryer … does anyone else do that?). I didn’t mind either because it made me feel like it was working.
It took me about a half hour to do both legs together, but I won’t need to do it again for two weeks. According to the directions, you’re supposed to go over each area of the body only once per session, and wait two weeks between each session. This cycle continues with a few changes in setting strength and time between sessions, for up to a year to get the best results. While it’s certainly not a overnight process, it was easy enough that I plan to keep at it in the hopes that my days of leg shaving are behind me.
The final verdict? If you’d rather not spend your time shaving, give Silk’n #NoShaveWave Revolution a try. Check out the product for yourself here!
