When I was 21 and lived in New York, I was really into “the scene.” If I saw a club or bar in the US Weekly Buzz-o-Meter, you bet your Bebe dress I’d be there the next weekend, standing in line for an hour in the middle of January in a mini and heels ’til I got in.
Cut to a few years later, and my mentality has changed a bit. Now, if I walk up to a bar and there’s a line outside, I immediately turn around and find somewhere else to go. Because ain’t nobody got time for that.
Thus, when I recently heard about a new app called Tablelist, I was intrigued…The app basically lets you book a table at basically any lounge or nightclub in your city from your phone, which means you can all but guarantee you won’t be waiting in any kind of line. Walk up to a bar, see a line, book a table, skip the line. Or just book ahead of time for a celebration or special night out. It’s also great because when you do book the table with the app, you’ll have the option to split the tab with your friends.
I recently got a chance to try Tablelist out for myself, for a little happy hour fun with a few girlfriends. We booked a table at Empire in the Seaport, pre-ordered a couple of bottles of Moet, and headed there straight from work. When we got there, we were shown our table, and the hostess immediately starting filling our glasses. And let me tell you, there are few greater ways to end a stressful day at work than sitting in a cozy banquette, and having someone to make sure your Champagne glass is never less than half-full.
When it was time to go, we simply got up and left. We’d already taken care of the check and tip via the app, which was nice, because almost as bad as trying to get into a crowded bar is trying to leave a crowded bar. Flagging down a busy waitress when the drinks are done and you really just want to be in your bed, and figuring out how to split a check after you’ve been drinking is not a fun way to end the night.
All in all, it was a great experience, and I’ll definitely be doing it again!
