Here’s what I knew about eyelash extensions previous to a month or so ago: they are a thing that girls are doing. And they are an expensive thing that girls are doing.
So naturally, in the spirit of blogging experimentation, I made an appointment at Amazing Lash Studio in Lincoln Park to investigate the latest and greatest in beauty trends… and my life might never be the same.
The space itself was immaculate- beautifully decorated and surprisingly spacey. I was greeted immediately and asked to sign a waiver and fill out information about the typical allergies, previous eyelash extension experience, etc. Post paperwork, I was set up with my eyelash esthetician. Pretty standard experience so far.
Mariah, my personal eyelash expert, ushered me into a small room, and asked me to lay down on a pretty dang comfy bed/ table hybrid. We talked about the look I was going for- there are four to choose from- and I obviously went with the most obnoxious option, known as “The Gorgeous,” which optimized both volume and length. We small talked while she took off my make-up, and explained each step of the process ahead. My bottom eyelashes were then taped down so she wouldn’t confuse them with the top lashes, and then she really went to work.
I refer to the next stage of the procedure lovingly as the “lash nap.” Your esthetician will meticulously utilize safe adhesive and a specialized pair of tweezers to apply longer lashes to each of your individual eyelashes. I, naturally, fell asleep.
I woke up from said lash nap as she was finishing up. Just in case incredible lashes doesn’t sell it for you, I also got a free nap whilst making myself prettier and I feel like that’s all we can really ask for. Mariah handed me a mirror to show off her handiwork.
You guys, I was astounded. Where my short, stubby, grey-ish/ blonde-mostly eyelashes were before, stood long, luscious, black eyelashes in their place. And somehow, while looking lengthier and thicker, they managed to also look really natural.
Previous to Mariah handing me the mirror, I couldn’t understand when girls told me they were dropping $100+ on fake eyelashes. I mean, I’m a lady that prides myself on responses like “thanks! I got this dress for $5 from TJ Maxx with 8 coupons and selling my first child” when someone compliments my outfit. So when I say that Amazing Lash Studio’s eyelash extensions are the best beauty investment I’ve made to date, you have to know that my expectations were absolutely blown the heck away by this brand. My lashes ended up lasting for over 6 weeks (which I hear is unusual, but this place is just that good), and didn’t wear mascara during those 45ish days. It was glorious, and my morning routine thanked me.
Run, don’t walk, to get your Lash (not to mention your lash nap) on!
