Nowadays it’s very normal to dye your hair. Most girls at some point or another have tried highlights, balayage or all over hair color, but not everyone takes proper care of those dyed strands. In order to make your color last, and avoid damage, you need to treat your hair right! Luckily, we of the dyed hair brigade would know, and we have you covered.
First things first, you need to get yourself some keratin. Keratin is the natural protein that makes up most of your hair, so naturally it can be hugely helpful in refreshing dryness and damage, especially if you dye your hair lighter (like I did recently).
I have been using Keratin Complex’s Blondeshell Debrass & Brighten Shampoo and Conditioner for the last few months of my bright blonde life and have been able to keep my hair pretty much the same texture and smoothness as during my highlight phase. Which, given the amount of bleach that went into my hair, is saying something.
Deborah Gavin, Keratin Complex’s International Artistic Director of Color, explained how this could be.
“Keratin has the ability to fill in areas of your hair that are stressed, whether through chemical, environmental or from blow drying resulting in shiny, glossy and healthy hair. […] More specifically, client favorite Blondeshell, helps maintain your beautiful blonde hues. In fact, redheads and brunettes that struggle with orange or yellow tones will love it too!”
Care shouldn’t stop in the shower though. With any dyed hair, but again especially when you lighten your locks, you will run into more frizz and stray hairs than you are used to. Say goodbye to sleek ponytails and cute ballerina top knots without the help of post-bath products.
I have been relying on a healthy spritz of Infusium LeaveIn Spray, added on pre-blow dry, every time I get out of the shower. It’s full of lightweight conditioners to work on my mend split ends, plus start taming my flyaways, without leaving a heavy, yucky film once my hair dries.
If I do want to go for a more sleek look, I was happy to discover that dyed hair also holds most products better than virgin hair. I could layer on hairspray to make my curls stick, and I started adding this Infusium Argan Oil & Keratin Smoothing Serum to all my ponytails and buns, and honestly every time I straighten my hair. It’s light but effective!
My foray into total blonde-ness has been brief (I’m going back darker today), but these products got me through with minimal damage and maximum style…plus they didn’t break the bank!
So, if you want to become a quick change hair artist, stock up and head to your stylist. Now is the time.
