Memorial Day is almost here, and we have officially started working on our beach bodies in advance of long weekends, summer vacations and (hopefully) warm Chicago weather coming soon. Fitness isn’t just about working out though. It’s also about making sure you give your muscles, and the rest of your body, time to recover, relax and feel renewed. Sounds like we need to plan a full day of gym and spa time STAT.
Though we have tried gyms and spas abound in our wonderful Windy City, few places make it simpler to get both in one location than exhale spa in the Gold Coast. Both locations offer yoga, barre and cardio classes, alongside a full spa menu including everything from manis and pedis to massages and facials to a Couple’s Therapy Room.
With that in mind, and especially with the deadline of Memorial Day weekend around the corner, we have the best combinations of spa and sweat schedules already made up for you. Depending on what you’re looking for, and what you want to wear for your day of wellness, we have you covered.
If you want to destress while still breaking a sweat…
Focus on your breath and relax with a yoga class followed by a massage to relax, relieve pain and restore your body.
Both locations offer a variety of yoga classes, including Chill Yoga focusing on meditation and breathing exercises. That is perfect for an early morning stretch session, but if you really want to work your yogi muscles, try out the Core Fusion Yoga class, which targets toning. Follow up either class with a nice massage, which will help keep your muscles flexible and prevent future soreness.
For that day, you should dress comfortably, but don’t need to worry as much about more traditional “athletic” work out gear. Start your day with a barre class to sweat out toxins and limber up your muscles, then get a facial to clean deep into your pours and prevent future break-outs.
These barre classes are no joke, and will never leave you behind! Get ready to break a serious sweat, without any nervousness over not knowing the moves or barre jargon. The exhale teachers are welcoming and informative, so even if this is your first barre class, you will leave feeling great. Then comes the massage (always a personal favorite of mine). The True Massage is a classic and leaves your skin feeling super refreshed but you can also upgrade to the Cool Beam Massage, which includes a healing light to reduce sun damage and age lines.

If you want a girl’s day that still gets you moving…
Grab coordinating manis and pedis, then sign up for a Core Fusion Extreme class so you can all sweat together.
This class is perfect for anyone who gets bored easily or wants to try out a new class. You alternate 40 second work out moves for a variety of stations throughout the whole class, so you’re always moving and always learning something new.
The RUMI X line is colorful and fun so go for the bold with one of their bright sports bras and then pair it with patterned leggings. For your mani and pedi, just throw on a waffle knit shirt from Crane & Lion over the bra and get ready for some girl time relaxation.
