You may not be in college anymore, but that doesn’t mean you don’t deserve to take a spring break. After all, work is just as (/more) exhausting as studying for finals! So whether you’re planning on getting away with your girlfriends, your significant other, or even flying solo, sometimes you’re just a little too old for jello shots at 9 a.m. and need more of a “mimosas at noon” kind of vacation…So grab your passport and start bookmarking some travel sites, because these 5 destinations will give you a definite taste of wanderlust.
1. Tulum, Mexico
While your former college self might have hit up Cancun for the week, your adult self will thank you for skipping it and heading to Tulum instead. While still boasting the same beautiful coastline, Tulum offers you more of a relaxed feel. Whether you’re in the mood for yoga (it’s known for its amazing classes), exploring the caves and cenotes, or checking out the Mayan ruins, you won’t be bored here. And while you’re there be sure to eat at Hartwood’s (it’s a local favorite).
2. San Pedro, Belize
Instead of surfing in Costa Rica, try exploring the Barrier Reef in San Pedro, Belize. San Pedro will give you the island feel that every travelbug wants, without all of the tourist hustle and bustle. Plus, it’s a fairly short trip (since it’s just south of Mexico), and even the nicest hotels on the island (our editor Kait recommends Victoria House) are affordable. Whether you’re snorkeling in the coral reef, checking out the shops, flats fishing off the coast, or biking to dinner, vacationing here will feel like paradise after a winter on the East Coast…after all it did inspire Madonna’s La Isla Bonita, so that has to count for something right?
3. Big Sur, California
If you’re West Coast dreaming, what better way to see California than by planning a road trip through Big Sur. You can enjoy exploring the state parks (don’t miss Pfeiffer Beach and Point Lobos State Park) with your girlfriends or taking a scenic drive along the California coast with your hubby. Either way, this vacation is will give you the relaxing Spring Break you deserve.
4. Antigua, The West Indies
Instead of jetting off to Puerto Rico with the rest of the college crowd, check out the island of Antigua instead. You can swim with the stingrays, take a day trip to nearby St. Maarten, or just mill around the picturesque beaches and work on your tan. Either way, you’ll have a spring break you won’t soon forget.
5. Bali, Indonesia
Grab your girlfriends and get your Eat, Pray, Love on by booking a relaxing yoga retreat in Bali. While not your typical SB destination, what better way to relax and immerse yourself in the Balinese culture than with a yoga retreat in paradise. If yoga’s not your thing, there’s plenty of other things to keep you busy—visit the area’s many temples, and there’s plenty of opportunity to try surfing, hiking, or snorkeling.
