With baseball, basketball and hockey all heating up for the playoffs, this is the time of year when sports seem to be everywhere you turn. But just because you love cheering on your team, or grabbing a few friends to watch the next big game doesn’t mean you can’t still keep your fashion game on point as well. Thanks to all kinds of sporty yet stylish offerings – from track pants to bomber jackets to baseball caps – there are plenty of ways to rock athletic chic this spring, to sports games and beyond.
1. Sweatshirts: The easiest, and probably most comfortable, way to try out sporty chic this time of year is with a sweatshirt. Many runway shows used sweatshirts with embellishments, patterns and color blocking to style the comfortable favorite in a decidedly fashionable way. If you’re new to the trend, try this striped Current/Elliott sweatshirt from Bloomingdale’s (above left). If you’re more girly or fashion-forward, this jeweled shirt sleeved sweatshirt from J. Crew will be perfect for you (above center)!
Another top to try is this track sweater from Free People, which is an easier take on the bomber jacket, and can even be worn to work with slim fitting pants and a statement necklace. And if you really want to make a sporty statement, the brand also has baseball jacket with crochet detailing, which is now on sale (below middle)!
2. Jersey Tops. If you want to go more casual, opt for a jersey top! This silk tee from J. Crew comes in multiple colors and would look great with dark jeans or patterned pants (above left). If you really want to look like you made the team though, you have to choose this H&M baggy tee, which is perfect for a casual brunch or running errands.
3. Track Pants. On the bottom half, these Nastygal track pants are comfy and cute, especially with heeled sandals. Or for warmer weather, these GUESS? track shorts (also on sale!) will make your legs look mile-long, even if you’re not an athlete. But if you want something that can easily take you from the track to the runway the Lululemon “Here to There” pants literally will get you from here to there. In navy blue with a tuxedo stripe, these are work out pants that look office appropriate.
4. Baseball caps. Decidedly not work appropriate are baseball caps, but they certainly are perfect for springtime! They can keep your hair in check during blustery spring days and are perfect to throw on when you’re running out the door. For Chicago and Boston gals, Goorin Bros. hat shop has throwback hats for the Cubs and the Red Sox, who both boast the MLB’s two oldest ballparks. But if you’re not from either of our great cities, there’s still a classic black look which will take you into next year’s baseball season (all above)!
Batter up ladies!
