Score one for the yuppies! In case there was any lingering doubt about Southie’s status as Boston’s up-and-coming neighborhood, a spin studio just set up shop on Dot Ave (in the same month that Starbucks finally opened its doors directly across the street) to put those doubts to bed.
The Handle Bar, as the indoor cycling studio is cleverly called, is the first of its kind in South Boston. It’s located on the ground floor of the Macallen Building, and offers 45 and 60-minute spin classes, during which they promise high energy and a great soundtrack. The Handle Bar has a zen-like vibe, a top notch sound system, and amenities like Pearl Izumi shoe rentals, American Apparel merchandise, water bottles, and storage cubbies. Classes, which cost $20 for a single session (less if you buy a package), can be reserved online up to seven days in advance.
As a Southie resident myself, I have to say I’m just happy to have any fitness option that’s not Gold’s Gym.
