Though we don’t often cover music here on L&C, it’s definitely a big part of our lives. And now with the Grammys coming up this weekend, music is top of mind all across the country. So we turned to longtime L&C friend and avid music guru, Andrew Howard (he’s the stylish guy in the center photo) for all the best new music! Howard’s blog, AndrewPresents is the ultimate destination for any music lover and we had him round up his latest his favorites, just for us…
If you haven’t visited Howard’s blog before, you are seriously missing out on the latest music news, not to mention some very catchy mixes the Missouri native makes just for his followers. His summertime mashups singlehandedly got us through the long spring work days last year. No matter what type of music you like, we promise you’ll find it here. His favorite genres range from Pop to EDM to Progressive House, and he has killer dance moves to match each one! So, with that in mind, we just had to ask him for his top up and coming music picks for both Chicago and Boston (plus a few other favorite cities). Put in your headphones and enjoy!
Must-Listen Song: ‘Enjoy The Ride’
Why We Love Them: Krewella blew up in 2013 with the re-release of their single ‘Alive.’ Their debut album Get Wet has some of the hardest hitting dance songs out there right now, and is a great indicator that these guys have a lot more to offer in the future. If you’re looking for a good time, look no further than Krewella.
Must-Listen Song: ‘I Want It All’
Why We Love Them: After being discovered during an appearance on the Ellen DeGeneres show, Karmin was quickly put on the fast track for pop stardom. Composed of Amy Renee Heidemann and Nicholas Louis “Nick” Noonan, Karmin is becoming a stand out act for 2014. Mostly known for their breakout hit ‘Brokenhearted’ up til now, Karmin are hoping to capitalize on this with the release of their debut album, Pulses, on March 25th of this year.
Must-Listen Song: ‘Elevate’
Why We Love Them: St. Lucia has an knack for making it feel like summer all year long with his infectious music. His album When the Night was on the top of our favorite albums list last year. With a huge soundcloud following and fan love from the blogging communities, St. Lucia should be on the tip of everyone’s tongue in no time.
Must-Listen Song: ‘Thank You’
Why We Love Them: Malcolm Kelley and Tony Oller (aka MKTO) are quickly making a name for themselves. These two have picked up where 3OH3! left off years ago, expanding on the fun combination of throw your hands in the air pop music with catchy rap hooks. Look out for their self-titled album to drop on January 31st this year. Plus (according to L&C) they’re pretty nice to look at!
Must-Listen Song: ‘Somebody Loves You’
Why We Love Them: After hailing immediate praise with her single ‘Somebody Loves You’ in 2012, it didn’t take a genius to see this girl knew what she was doing. With the release of the outstanding The Movement EP and a wedding proposal video that went viral in September 2013 using Betty’s ‘Somebody Loves You’, she became a bonafide hit. And upcoming album in the works for 2014, the sky truly is the limit for this up and coming pop superstar.
Other favorites are the UK group Bastille, best known now for their hit “Pompeii” and and the ever catchy girl group Neon Jungle, also from England, who you might remember preforming at this year’s Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show.
