Editor’s note: In our newest series, Shop Local, we’re talking with Chicago tastemakers in fashion, food, interiors, mom-stuff, beauty, fitness, and more, about their favorite resources in the city.
First up, we’re picking the brain of one of our favorite Chicago fashion bloggers (or should we say one of our favorite bloggers period who just happens to also live in Chicago…), Jess Keys of The Golden Girl. In the unlikely chance you’re not already following her on Instagram, take a second and do that now, because her account is full of outfit inspiration (the kind you’d actually wear), real and funny peeks into her life as a newlywed, and a wealth of knowledge on lipstick colors. Then, check out the spots that Jess and her new hubby Neal frequent to shop for clothes and decor around Chicago, below.
Stock MFG Co
Neal’s #1 favorite place to shop–Stock (2136 W Fulton St) is owned by local guys with a factory right here in Chicago. Their shirts are unparalleled with design and quality, and it’s a shopping experience your guy will actually like–they’re happy to pour you a whiskey or a beer on tap while you shop.
Both Neal and I love Una Mae’s (1528 N Milwaukee Ave.) because they have an awesome mix of new and vintage clothing for men and women, plus, really awesome unique gifts. If I’m ever looking for something fun but small for something like a gift exchange or a hostess gift, I’ll always pop in here! I also love their vintage scarf bin where you can get a great neck scarf for just a few bucks!
This shop has locations in La Grange, Clarendon Hills, and Granger (their Bucktown location is sadly closing soon!). I kind of describe them as a mini, local Anthropologie. They have a really great selection of brands and clothing, amazing candles, a well curated selection of jewelry, adorable greeting cards, housewares, and more.
Gather Home and Lifestyle
Gather (2321 W North Ave.) is a seriously beautiful home store that will bring out the minimalist in everyone. If you’re looking for unique goods from small, local makers, this will be your spot! From blankets to pillows to heavenly candles and even apothecary products–you’ll never want to leave empty-handed.
I’m probably in this store at least three times per month, if not just to stop in and chat with the owners, Jon and Kurt, who have become our friends! If you’re a midcentury furniture-lover, you will die over Velvet Goldmine (2001 W Division St.). Their prices are hands down the best in the city, and several of our very favorite pieces in our home have come from them.
Thanks Jess! And happy shopping!
