If, like me, you can sum up your ability to do your own hair in the words “ponytail” and “top-knot,” then you’re probably pretty excited that blow dry bars seem to have taken hold. A year ago, Boston had just one of these style-only salons, and now there’s practically one in every neighborhood (Blo, Gusto, Hair-o and Be Styled are just a few that have popped up around town).
The omnipresence of blow-dry bars doesn’t take away an ounce of the happiness I feel each time I hear a new one is opening, though, because the more options I have for looking like a babe without turning on my own curling iron, the better.
So, when one of the best-known hair salons in Boston announces they’re launching an in-salon style bar, I’m curious.
Earlier this month, Salon Mario Russo began offering a “menu” of nine different styles–from voluminous waves to sleek ponytails and boho braids–all of which can be done in under 30 minutes, and cost only $35. Last week, I got a chance to stop by the salon to get a first-hand look at two of the hairstyles being offered, and let’s just say that next time I have a special event to go to (or just get sick of my top knot) I’m going there for a Refined Blow Dry (scroll down and you’ll see what I mean).
**Special thanks to Paloma of Regan Communications, who volunteered her gorgeous hair, and to Tatiana from Mario Russo, who showed us her skills!
First up is the Refined Blow Dry, which is everything a blow-out should be: voluminous, bouncy and just messy enough to not look overdone. It’s a style that’d be equally suited for work or a wedding.
Why can’t I just wake up and look like this?
Look two is called The Sleek Braid. It’s a fishtail pulled to the side, so it’s polished, but still fun.
Visit the Mario Russo website for a full list of styles.
