Hey Chicago! It’s April! Which means it’s time to come on out from under all those layers and stop planning your wardrobe around survival in the Tundra. Because it probably seems like it’s been years since the last time you didn’t wear boots and a sweater (us, too), we tapped one of Chicago’s top personal stylists, Mallory Sills, to offer her expert tips on how we can all refresh our wardrobes for the spring weather.
Spring style strategy, GO.
Cleanse your closet.
Spring cleaning doesn’t just apply to your junk drawer, it’s the perfect time to cleanse your closet! If it’s been a minute since you’ve actually taken the time to go through your closet, schedule a time to do so now. You probably have things in your closet that you’ve forgotten about, don’t even fit, AND you don’t even like/wear anymore. Why let those things take up space in your closet? It’s a great step to take to make more room in your closet, and give you that fresh perspective on your style and refreshed state-of-mind to clear the clutter (hence calling it a closet CLEANSE).
The start of the spring season has so many of us ready to make some changes with our style, but you may be feeling a bit stuck when it comes to feeling inspired. One of the best things to do to get that dose of inspiration and excitement with your style is to get some inspiration. Using sites like Pinterest to collect images of outfits that you really love, or flipping through a fashion magazine are easy to do and can be the perfect way to give you that oomph you need to get excited about the new season.
Incorporate a few new pieces.
Let’s face it, we end up wearing the few same pieces in our wardrobe over and over again. While you I’m not saying that you need to go out and buy a whole new wardrobe every season, incorporating a few new pieces into your wardrobe with the start of the new season can be an incredible way to get a little refresh into your wardrobe. Do you keep feeling drawn to a few new trends or styles? Splurge on yourself and add a few pieces into your wardrobe (like the new unfinished hem in denim) that you’re really in LOVE with – you’re sure to feel that much more excited about the spring season.
Play Tetris with your wardrobe.
Going back to that, wearing the same few pieces in your wardrobe thing…you probably end up wearing the same few actual outfits over and over again, don’t you? If you really want to get a wardrobe refresh it’s time to play a little game of tetris…with your wardrobe! Take a few minutes when you have some free time to play around in your closet. Try mixing and matching different pieces together. This is best done after you’ve gotten some inspiration (see above). You’ll be surprised at how many other options you have hanging in your closet. And let’s face it, new outfit options = feels like a whole new wardrobe.
