Washing your hair seems like a simple task. Most of us do it every day, or at least every other day. We don’t think about it or worry over it. But it turns out you could be doing it all wrong! So to care for your hair, especially during the heat and humidity of summer, we have your best easy tips for haircare…
DON’T SHOWER TOO OFTEN
Keep your hair washing to three times a week, max. This helps your hair keep all the moisture it needs to look and feel its healthiest. In between showers, you can use a dry shampoo, or even baby powder to help deodorize and refresh hair. Apply to the roots and shake your hair out throughout the day. However, if you hit the gym, we recommend at least a body shower to mist your hair and hit the refresh button.
KEEP THE WATER COOL
Hot showers are literally all of the things. Even on hot summer days like those that lie ahead of us, there’s just something about a nice hot shower. However, the hot water can have seriously harsh effects on your hair. So either turn the temp down, or start using an effective hydrating mask to keep your hair strong. This treatment gently nourishes dry hair and will leave it strong and silky smooth.
PROTECT DYED HAIR
If you’re in love with your latest color, you don’t want it to fade after a few washes, or have it do a number on your hair health. To keep your color vibrant, choose a color-preserving shampoo and conditioner to kick your color up a notch. And if you have dyed your hair lighter, add moisture back into your locks with a repairing system like the Moisture Replenishing System from Infusium23.
GET YOUR PROTEIN
One way to protect your hair, dyed or otherwise, is to choose protein-rich products, but especially conditioner. Look for one that contains amino acids, which are proteins that help strengthen the hair. The Hairfinity system is one that I’ve used to add moisture and enhance shine with botanical oils and vitamins…plus it comes in super cute and colorful packaging.
DON’T BRUSH YOUR HAIR IN THE SHOWER
I always have trouble working through tangles when I’m out of the shower, and have read in the past that brushing my hair in the shower could help with that. However, when your hair is wet, it’s weak, and brushing your hair while weak can lead to more split ends and breakage. Towel dry your hair first then lightly pull through a brush for detangling without damaging.
CHOOSE THE PROPER HAIR DRYER
Blow dryers and other heat-based styling tools like straighteners. There’s no way around that. However, by selecting an ionic or tourmaline hair dryer, which help retain moisture and smooth dry, damaged hair, you can do what you can to decrease damage during the drying process. Choosing a lower, or even cool heat setting with a product like the Pro Beauty Tools Ionic hair dryer, will also help protect your hair.
