In my eyes, there is no beauty product more necessary than a good mascara. It’s the one product that I can put on an instantly feel better looking. Which is why I’ve gone to great lengths (pun most certainly intended) to find the good ones…I can honestly say I’ve tried dozens of mascaras in my lifetime, everything from Maybelline, to Clinique to Laura Mercier. Until now, the best I’ve found have been Christian Dior “Diorshow” and Bobbi Brown “Extreme Party” mascaras (drugstore runner up: L’Oreal “Voluminous Million Lashes”). They all give you Kardashi-lashes, which is the ultimate goal.
So, when I received a sample tube of Givenchy Noir Couture mascara in the mail, I figured I’d try it for a few days and eventually go back to my tried-and-true brands. Which I did – the sectioned brush threw me off a bit, and I was back to Bobbi Brown in no time. Until I ran out of mascara and had to resort to the Givenchy (the horror!). But, to my surprise, when I tried it a second time, I found myself loving it to the point where I haven’t gone out to replace my Bobbi Brown version. This past weekend, I was a bridesmaid in my sister-in-law’s wedding, and the girls all thought I’d put on fake eyelashes for the occasion, when in fact, it was my good ol’ stand-in mascara. I think the reason that I wasn’t that into it in the beginning is that the product is thick, so it just sat on top of the wand and tended to “gunk up” on my eyes. But, as the mascara settled into the brush from a bit, it went on more evenly, producing a fabulous result. Bottom line? I’m glad I gave it a second shot, and it now ranks among my top choices for mascara.
