We are just a few short days from Valentine’s Day and the Windy City is really beginning to feel the love! With special dinner deals, bar events and more, no matter if you’re single, or have already been hit by Cupid’s arrow, you have some prepping to do Chicago! I have all the best places to get gussied up, and some last minute recommendations for anyone who still doesn’t have plans..
To find that perfect outfit, you can check out our posts (we consider ourselves pretty well-informed) or your favorite local Chicago spot! Some of my favorites are the Nordstrom on Michigan Avenue, because you know you will get great service, and Krista K, which has great trendy pieces. If you’re in a bind, you can’t go wrong with these fun red or floral options. Or, for a real statement, I have been drooling over this sleeveless leather option from Mango too!
If you want to look perfect from the neck up, Goldplaited is a one-stop beauty shop for makeup and hair care that will leaving you feeling – pardon the pun – as good as gold. With blowouts, styling, makeup application, deep conditioning, and more, they have everything you’ll need to make your head pretty. There are a variety of makeup and hair style options to choose from, and you can always book a package deal for the whole shebang!
I also plan on making a stop at Polish and Pour Spa + Bar, which now has locations in Old Town and Streeterville. This place is literally heaven on earth! A nail salon and spa that is BYOB, it now also features its own full bar services, and plays Sex and the City and rom coms on big screen TVs all day long. It’s basically a woman’s version of a sports bar. I’ll be going solo to treat myself to a mani/pedi before Valentine’s Day, but you can also reserve a private room for parties.
If you’ll be staying in or cooking for your date on Friday, you might want consider Instacart, a new grocery delivery service that friends of L&C have been raving about. This is an upgrade on the grocery delivery services of the past, because Instacart sources from Whole Foods, Mariano’s and even Costco (you don’t need to be a member). It almost makes grocery shopping seem fun…almost.
And if you are still looking for plans, I have two great and unexpected ideas – one for those who want to mingle, and one for those who are ready to cuddle up. If you are still trying to find your Valentine, head to Headquarters Beercade, for their first ever “Singles Mingle” Speed Dating Event. The Lakeview bar will host the event tomorrow, so you still have time to strike that love connection before the big day! And they took a twist on the usual speed dating timers, by having the pairs go through lightening rounds of playing games like Ms. Pac Man and Duck Hunt. Happy hunting Valentines!
However, if you already know who has caught your heart, I have an exclusive night of luxury to recommend for you. The Thompson Chicago Hotel, and immediate L&C favorite, has two options for an intimate evening of love. The first is the “Scent-sual Valentine’s Day” package, which includes the night in a superior king room with your choice of a champagne cocktail setup or custom confection of Valentine’s Day desserts, complete with rose scented candles. If you want an even more elevated experience, there’s the “Digital Detox” Package, which allows for lots of reconnection…without the Internet connection. You check your mobile devices at the door, and have a first class weekend complete with open-kitchen dinner at Nico Osteria, bath turndown service and an Intelligentsia coffee tray delivered the morning after.
No matter what your preparation schedule or big night plans, remember to stay warm…hopefully by cozying up to someone special!
