Pantone experts look for influences in fashion, entertainment, interior design, art collections, destinations and more, to choose the annual color of the year. The new shade for 2013, emerald, replaced the vibrant red-orange hue that held the throne for 2012. (For you curious color lovers – the new “it” color is known more formally as Pantone 17-5641!) The rich tone exudes luxury, most often associated with gemstones. “Since antiquity, this luminous, magnificent hue has been the color of beauty and new life in many cultures and religions,” said Leatrice Eiseman, executive director of the Pantone Color Institute. Also the color of growth, renewal and prosperity, no other color conveys regeneration more than green.“ The prevalence of green has been rising, specifically seen in the fashion markets with designers Tracy Reese, Nanette Lepore, and NAHM featuring the Pantone 2013 color in their spring collections.
Whether it’s your wardrobe or living area, here are some tips for incorporating emerald:
Wardobe: A shade that is easy to over-do, think of a simple pairing! Mix it with rich purples, blues, reds, black and golds, to bring out the jewel tone.
Accessories: Ultimate favorite being the emerald earrings Angelina wore to the 2009 Oscars! Four years later & we still remember this look. Paired with a simple black dress, the emerald added a luxurious touch. Add an emerald clutch or bracelet to top off an otherwise basic look.
Make-up: Remember to not look like you are stuck in the 80’s! Subtle works best in this category. Try a deep emerald eyeliner like Yves Saint Laurent liquid eyeliner in Emerald.
Decor: I’ve always been a huge fan of accent walls! Add a lush feel to any room by draping your walls in emerald. Not ready to commit to such a drastic addition? Try adding adding decorative pillows or patterned curtains to break up the color.
