NOT by Jenny Lai, presented at Highline Loft during New York Fashion Week Spring/Summer 2013, showed that floral prints are making a comeback on the spring runways this year. Bring on the sangria! Fashion followers sipped on drinks and lined up in the spacious loft in anticipation of the artistic collection by Jenny Lai.
Unlike her debut SS 12 Collection Portrait by Sheet, the appropriately named 2013 presentation, Porous, featured introverted feminine pieces, consisting of sheer panels, and skin revealing cut outs.
The inspiration for NOT by Jenny Lai’s Porous collection came from the physical expression of the empty spaces we accumulate in our lives. “As we lose people, places and memories, we can be so full of holes that we float”, said designer Jenny Lai. “Certain garments have the effect of making us feel bigger, stronger and more impermeable than we really are”. The collection aimed to expose the fragility of our bodies by including cut outs that revealed the knees, shoulders, and often overlooked flesh behind the legs. The color palette consisted of predominantly bright colors, ranging from azalea pink to red and lilac. The collection in its entirety is the celebration of the “lightness of being” allowing its statement pieces to speak for themselves.
