We all know Nina Garcia from her style expertise on Project Runway and her work with fashion magazines like Elle and Marie Claire, and lucky for us, she’s still here to give advice and help us look fashionable with ease this summer, thanks to her new role with JCPenny.
In her latest role as part of JCPenny’s Style Voice, Nina talked to us about traveling in style on a budget, without losing the comfort you want on a long flight or car ride with the family. It’s not too hard, and it (thankfully) doesn’t have to cost a fortune either.
WHAT ARE SOME RULES OF THUMB WOMEN SHOULD KEEP IN MIND WHEN PLANNING THEIR AIRPORT OUTFITS?
A general rule of thumb that women should keep in mind when planning their travel outfits is to make sure you are comfortable. A lot of the time we associate style with being in an uncomfortable dress or heels all day or night when really, there are so many other ways to be stylish without compromising comfort.
WHAT IS A QUICK FIX CELEBS AND FASHIONISTAS USE TO LOOK MORE PUT TOGETHER AS THEY LEAVE THE AIRPORT?
One quick fix celebs and fashionistas use to look more together when they leave the airport is to throw on a killer jacket. No matter what you are wearing the right layers make your outfit look effortlessly styled. That’s why I picked JCP’s a.n.a moto jacket as one of my favorite travel picks – it will pull any outfit together and add a chic touch. This is also when those sunglasses are key.
YOU SPEND QUITE A BIT OF TIME ON THE ROAD! WHAT IS YOUR PACKING STRATEGY TO STREAMLINE THE PROCESS?
My packing strategy to streamline the process is to pack outfits that I can layer. You’ll see I picked very basic, simple pieces (theWorthington Soft Pants, Stylus tops, etc) that while they work together, they would also work with a number of any other items. Picking a few interchangeable pieces gives you limitless possibilities when jet setting.
WHAT ARE 3 THINGS WE SHOULD HAVE IN OUR SUITCASE NO MATTER WHERE WE’RE HEADED?
Three things you should have in your suitcase no matter where you are headed are: a great lotion, a portable phone charger and a comfortable/reliable pair of shoes. You can never go wrong with a classic pair of Converse…you just can’t go wrong.
Nina’s recommended products for traveling in comfortable style are:
- A flowing wide legged pant like these Worthington Wide-Leg Soft Pants
- The street chic Converse Chuck Taylor All Stars
- A cool tee that’s easily layered like the Stylus Short-Sleeve Striped Boxy Top
- A Faux-Leather Moto Jacket to put on if the plane gets cold
- Vitamin Hydrating Mist and Moisturizing Hand Cream to refresh and revive your skin
- The Rotating iPad Case and Lip Stick Portable Charger to keep your technology game going strong even on long flights
