It’s Friday. Valentine’s Day is on Sunday. And you aren’t quite sure what in store for this weekend. Maybe you’re holding out hope that your guy is making plans, or possibly coasting on pulling something together last minute, but either way, your Valentine’s plans are currently as mysterious as cafeteria lunch meat. If any or all of the above scenarios sound like you, this blog post is on your behalf.
And to be honest, it is also on my behalf, because I have no idea what my weekend holds and my brainstorming session is turning into a blog post. It is what it is.
1.Couples Massage/ Spa Day
Ok, ok. This is cliche. And maybe I’m writing this because my workout on Tuesday was ridiculous and I’m still waddling, but this sounds heavenly and a thing that both parties involved would enjoy immensely.
The Wit has a couple of fabulous Spa specials going on, that I would highly recommend:
All you need is Love Package
Indulge and relax in a candlelight room for two while receiving a soothing massage that uses a combination of Swedish Massage, heated stones, and aromatherapy that will clear your mind, calm you nerves, and relieve stiff and weary muscles.
80minutes- $180 per person ($20 savings)
(two glasses of champagne will be offered for you and your loved one!)
So in love… with theWit Signature Manicure and Pedicure Package

The Chocolate Lover Package

80 minutes- $160 ($20 savings)
2.Cook A Meal Together
Don’t want an extravagant Valentine’s Splurge day at the spa, but wanna spend some quality time together? Make a meal together! Pinterest something new, make a run to the grocery store together and make some magic in the kitchen!
If you’re like me and don’t know a colander from a crockpot, hit up Bake 425– they have some drool-worthy artisan, heart-shaped pizzas and dynamite salads that will cook on their own, so you can prioritize the important thing like binge watching Netflix together. I don’t know about you, but few things scream romance to me like a Backyard BBQ pizza with shredded and smoked mozzerella, BBQ chicken, pineapple and fresh basil and Parmesan. The quickest way to a man’s heart is through his stomach, after all.
Wanna spice things up? Pack a bag, and head to a hotel in the city that you live in. If Chicago is the city you call home, the Waldorf Astoria is both romantic, decadent and known for it’s personal touches to make your stay a memorable one. From room service options, to spacious bathrooms, and even to the variety of amenities available, it is truly an experience that will make your Valentine’s Day one you’ll never forget.
And even if you don’t want to stay in the hotel, they have an incredible (and little known) bar that is open to the public even if you’re not among the guests. With a speakeasy vibe in a room that fits only 35 people, Bernard’s Bar is private and serves cocktails that are among the best I’ve ever had. Plus, they have a hand-crafted Valentine’s menu that will make the evening unique. Here’s a little taste of what they have to offer just in case this romantic spot didn’t sell itself just yet:
The Blushing Heart: Cognac, dubonnet rouge, cranberry, lemon
Cocoa Kiss: Cognac, port, demerara, chocolate bitters
Secret Admirer: Peppercorn infused vodka, lillet rose, lemon
Cupid’s Crush: Vodka, lillet rouge, luxardo, lemon sparkling
4. Play A Game
Channel your inner kid and bust out a deck of cards or a board game and viola! You have a night ahead of you. Need a new idea to spice things up? One of my absolute favorite things to do with a boyfriend is head to the nearest dive bar, grab a beer and make up your own way to play darts. For every number, assign a truth or dare. It’s the best combo of fun, and a great way to get you guys feeling more connected.
5. Plan A Date Crawl
Sometimes it’s fun, not to mention healthy, to revisit your favorite old date spot and reminisce about when you met for the first time and said something mortifying. Or on your first date you face planted (I, of course, am not speaking from experience……………….), or that something small became a big favorite memory. Visit three places that are unique to your relationship, and talk the crap out of those funny, embarrassing, mortifying, adorable and nostalgic stories. Celebrate the uniqueness that is your relationship and the memories that have gotten you to this point.
6. Hit Up The Arcade Bar
I will probably come off as a man right now, but I love dates with activities. Plus, arcade bars are usually notorious for a vast and awesome collection of craft brews, so go grab a great drink and challenge your person to a game of air hockey. Nothing brings two people closer than betting on air hockey or Frogger.
7. Take A Cooking Class
Valentine’s Day is an awesome opportunity to try something new. Hit up Groupon and see if you can get this date on the cheap! There are so many cooking classes today ranging from sushi-making to pasta-making and every delicious taste in between, this is the perfect way to lock down a favorite recipe you can cook at home in the future. Need a suggestion for those of you living in Chicago? I’m a sucker for the Chopping Block because they have absolutely rad instructors, and also tend to err on the healthier side of recipes. As your fitness editor, I am into this.
