Art begets style and American legends as the Joffrey Auxiliary Board hosted their 3rd annual Pointe of Departure benefit on Thursday, Feb. 7, bringing in more than 200 guests and helping raise $25,000 to support Joffrey Ballet programs. Overlooking the Joffrey Tower, Block 37’s raw, loft penthouse space welcomed the city’s jet set of budding philanthropists, tastemakers and artists for an evening of commissioned art themed after American legends and inspired by the movement of dance, custom cocktails, heavy hors d’oeuvres, exclusive silent auction gifts, and above all a celebration of the Joffrey Ballet.
Already in its third consecutive year, Pointe of Departure is the Joffrey Auxiliary Board’s signature event of the year. The evening not only set the pace and direction for the board, but also raised money for the Joffrey, featuring and promoting local artists and their work. From statement pieces to more modest ones guests had the option of purchasing the displayed art that evening. Event co-chairs Alan Swanke and David Kimball are both honored and excited to host the board’s big night. Major sponsors included Ralph Lauren, Pretty Quick, St. Germaine, and Skinnygirl cocktails!
For the first time an honorary host committee of social fixtures was on board, including mayor’s press secretary Tarrah Cooper, Kathleen Henson of Henson Consulting, Benjamin Newby, James Sims, Maggie Morgan, James Goeke, and Matt Dudek have all signed on to the event – attracting a more varied and robust guest list.
“Now, in its third year Pointe of Departure continues to be an innovative way to kick off the Joffrey Auxiliary Board’s year of events to support the Joffrey Ballet. We were so excited to welcome guests to an evening that not only raised money for the Joffrey but also featured and promoted Chicago’s rich pool of artists and their works. Above all, guests seemed to have fun and walked away with a deeper understanding of what our board is all about.” – Joffrey Auxiliary Board’s event chair, Terrence Chappell
