As a bit of a night owl, my nighttime beauty routine is super-important because sometimes it’s the only thing that can relax me before bed. It’s a time to slow down, take care of myself, and unwind at the end of the day. And while I’ve seen a few articles recently about not removing your makeup before bed, according to dermatologists (and my own personal experience) a good nighttime beauty routine, including makeup removal, is one of the most crucial elements to achieving (and preserving) a model-esque complexion. So because I’m a bit of a freak about it, here’s what I do each night to wake up (hopefully) looking better each morning.
The first step is makeup removal. I wish I could pull of the “no-makeup” look but instead I usually have to strive for the “no-makeup makeup” look. I rely on products like Clinique’s Beyond Perfecting Foundation and Benefit mascara to get me through the day, but at night it all comes off. Everything. My recent favorite face wash has been Bella Schneider Royal Rose Oil Cleanser. It smells amazing and takes my makeup quickly and without any harsh scrubbing needed (more on that in future posts).
Washing your face should be an everyday thing but I elongate my evening process 1-2 times per week with a recovery mask from glō therapeutics. I’ve used their makeup time and time again, but the Cucumber Recovery Mask is just as good for your skin as any lipstick is for your confidence. I’ve found that getting a deeper clean prevents future breakouts. I tend to put it on and then read a chapter of my book or quickly clean up my room for an added few minutes of downtime.
After your face is clean, prepping your skin and teeth for the night ahead should be the next step. I wish I could follow in my mom’s footsteps and just put Vaseline all over (yes she’s been doing that for 25 years and I’ve never seen a zit) but I have to be more careful about what I use.
For my body, I like something with a fun scent because it actually makes me want to use it. Farmhouse Fresh has lots of delicious options, but lately I have been using their Marshmallow Melt as a sweet end to my day.
Then I make my smile pretty with Colgate Total Daily Repair Toothpaste. I know it sounds weird to be such a fan of a specific toothpaste, but this is the one version I’ve found that actually seems to whiten my teeth. And as a pior braces-wearer (for 6 years) I never joke about my teeth and this stuff is the best.
Last but not least is the hair. I am a nighttime shower-er by nature, being a night owl and all, but I want to give my locks some love after I get out as well. Unless I’m air drying or really tired, I usually add the Wella “Perfect Me” beauty balm on the ends of my hair to keep it from getting dried out, especially during these winter months.
Then I jump into my PJs, which is more often than not a comfy tank top (I love the fun graphic ones from Enjoy Essential) and a pair of boxers. From there, its all about me and my pillow for a night of good, clean sleep.
