This month, we’re focusing on all the wonderful ways women can, and do, give back every day. To prove that everyone and anyone has time to do lend a helping hand, we’ve tapped some of the busiest, most successful women we know to find out how they give back, in the hopes they’ll inspire us all to find creative ways to do good.

The organization I work with: I am currently involved with the Chicago Children’s Choir.
Why I’m passionate about these causes: Chicago Children’s Choir empowers children to bridge cultural divides and become ambassadors of peace in their communities. With programs in more than 70 Chicago schools, 9 after-school neighborhood programs, an ensemble for boys with changing voices and the internationally-acclaimed Voice of Chicago, the diversity of Chicago Children’s Choir reflects the cultural landscape of the city. Why you feel that it’s important to make time to give back: Throughout our lifetime we meet people who intrigue us with their commitment to a particular cause and make an unforgettable first impression. I met Josephine Lee six years ago and from that moment on I knew that her passion for overcoming social, economic and gender boundaries is strong enough to empower and motivate young singers to become world citizens through the power of music.
It’s important to get involved with a cause that you believe makes a difference. Josephine and the Chicago Children’s Choir give Chicago communities a voice that they may not have had otherwise.
The “aha” moment for me was when I first heard the choir sing during their rehearsal at the Chicago Cultural Center. I got to be really close to the kids and that is an experience that I will remember forever. Right there and then I knew that I wanted to be involved with that organization. It made me feel that I was a part of a group that is raising the leaders of tomorrow and that feeling gives me satisfaction. It also makes me proud to be surrounded by some of the nicest and brightest people in the world!
