This month, we’re focusing on all the wonderful ways women can, and do, give back every day. To prove that everyone and anyone has time to do lend a helping hand, we’ve tapped some of the busiest, most successful women we know to find out how they give back, in the hopes they’ll inspire us all to find ways to do good.
Founder of children’s brand Monica + Andy
The causes I work with: “Little Giraffe. We started working with them on a very small scale last year but are excited to dedicate more of our resources to working with their organization. They do an incredible job working with preemies and the founders are incredible. We have worked this past year with Baby 2 Baby out of LA. Their organization is so generous in giving back to the Southern California communities that surround them. We have visited their offices before and were so impressed with their entire organization. We have also worked locally with the Chicago Children’s Choir as well as More than Milk. These organizations are amazing in Chicago and the creative director of the CCC Josephine Lee is an incredible leader as well as musician. As soon as you hear the children start to sing it is so moving. I cry every time. More than Milk and its founder Amy Cahill teach children to give back at a young age. We always love working with them to develop more toddler philanthropists. More then Milk hosts art projects in our store as well.”
How I Help: “With Baby 2 baby we have done blanket donations. With the CCC and More than Milk, they have both been part of our annual fashion show with the tickets sales from the event going 100% to these causes. Starting in April 2015, we will be donating a percentage of proceeds from all of the preemie items we sell to Little Giraffe, in addition to doing blanket donations to hospital NICU’s of their choosing.”
Why I’m passionate about these causes: “When you are working on a children’s brand it is hard to not get excited about giving back and working with kids in one capacity or another.”
Why it’s so important to give back: “My parents worked hard to instill a sense of caring for others when we were younger. I feel like as a company we are still small and the things we have only been able to begin to tap into what I hope we are eventually capable of. I do hope to scale our philanthropic efforts as we grow our company.”
How others can help: “With the Chicago Childrens Choir, getting involved in their annual Red Jacket Optional Gala is a great way to become part of the incredible organization. With More than Milk, attend one of our art classes with your tot to teach them about giving back. If you live in LA, Baby 2 Baby has so many great ways to be involved. They take donations of gently used items to repurpose them to families in need.”
