Thanksgiving is behind us, and the countdown to Christmas is straight up on! We are going to have lots of fun holiday content for you, from gift guides to entertaining tips from local Chicago spots to style ideas and more. In the meantime though, we have to give a shout out to our favorite part of the holiday season: food! Studies have shown that people can gain anywhere from 3 to even 10 pounds during the holiday season. But you don’t have to! We will be eating well, cooking at home, and still staying healthy for the start of 2018 with Terra’s Kitchen meal prep service.
Designed for the wellness-minded humans who still like a good meal, Terra’s Kitchen offers a huge range of meals, including vegetarian, gluten-free, vegan, and low calorie, in both date-night servings, and ones large enough for a whole family! Plus, you can get pre-made salads, snacks, smoothies, sides and juices if you want to really up your health ante and eat fancy all day long.
You won’t have to do tons of meal-prep on the weekends because all your ingredients come pre-prepped and delivered in a climate-controlled vessel, all snug as a bug in a chilled box. The box is reusable and eco-friendly, and it was picked up the next day (for real) so it can be reused up to 100 times on future orders. I was nervous when the box first showed up on my door step because it all looked so #official but Terra’s Kitchen was honestly so easy that I’m surprised I hadn’t tried it sooner.
To start, there are 50+ options that change all the time so you can have the best and most seasonal ingredients. Think Grilled Vegetable Bowtie Pasta, Seared Tuna Poke Bowls, Balsamic Mushroom Pepper Steaks, and tons more! If you want to vegetarian, paleo, or just a little bit healthier, they make it easy to search their recipes and find the ones for you on their site. I had trouble narrowing it down to a few recipes but I ended up picking Tandoori Chicken with Garlic and Spinach Rice Pilaf, Seared Chicken with Creamy Avocado Pasta, and Seared Rustic Tuna with Ginger-Tomato Sauce.
The site has two options, a 2-serving and 4-serving Family Meal option. I will say that the 2-serving meal can easily work for three lunches, or is a great dinner-sized portion for two. No scrimping on size here! The ingredients were clearly and easily labeled, and (even at my not so expert cooking skill level) were perfectly measured out for what I needed in all my recipes. I shared the Rustic Tuna with my roommate, and we were both full, but not in a food coma afterwards. It was a great mid-week lunch! The others I saved for myself because I could tell they were going to be so amazing even as I was cooking. Nothing makes you feel quite like a Top Chef like cooking a curry sauce for your Tandoori Chicken and having the whole house smell amazing!
The instructions promised that each meal could be prepped in under 30 minutes, and they didn’t lie! It was a great dinnertime activity because it got me up and away from my at-home work space to actually prepare a meal, but didn’t take me three hours and 42 pots and pans!
They also have smoothies like Caribbean Kale and Mint Chocolate, which will be great for my pre-Mexico vacation attempt at snacking healthy! You can also order Suja juices and snacks like edamame, and it will all come as a part of your larger order! All in all, having never tried a meal-prep service before, this left me wondering why I hadn’t. It was easy, delicious, and perfect for roommate dinners, date nights, or just impressing my family whenever I’m forced to cook for them.
If you haven’t tried a service like Terra’s Kitchen, I highly recommend giving it a go! Your stomach will thank you right away!
