ALEXANDRA HALL, EDITOR-IN-CHIEF, COUP BOSTON
On my wish list: I’m trying to behave really well (fat chance), so Santa will bring me the new Logitech Universal Remote. I mean honestly, when did watching TV suddenly require 15 remotes, 4 game controllers, and a Ph.D just to get to the show/movie you’re after? I guess it was when I added Playstation to my On Demand and Apple TV media mix, and had two kids who wanna play or watch what they wanna, without waiting for me to yell at the system for 30 minutes beforehand. Is this the sexiest present ever? (Rhetorical.) But is it the thing that’s going to save me time and mental energy. You can bet your eggnog-slurping butt it is.
The best gift I’ve ever gotten is: When I was 10 years old my dad and stepmom gave me a copper and calcite specimen that (literally) rocked my world. I had a mineral collection that I took *very* seriously, and this was clearly to be the centerpiece. In fact, I was such a huge nerd back then, that I wasn’t even phased or sad when my other gift that year included a box of Toughskins. The copper and calcite eclipsed everything. I still have it, not surprisingly.
The best gift I’ve ever given is: An ex of mine had his birthday right before Christmas, and I knew he always felt slighted by having to compete with Christmas (a.k.a. another birthday — Jesus Christ’s can be tough to go against). So I brought him on a sudden 4-day trip to Anse Chastanet resort in St. Lucia between his birthday and Dec. 25th. I thought that was pretty darn nice of me, and think, at least for that year, it made him feel like his birthday wasn’t getting overlooked.
