Cuffing season is here y’all! Don’t know what that is? Don’t worry, we have the official definition from our pals at Urban Dictionary:
“During the Fall and Winter months people who would normally rather be single or promiscuous find themselves along with the rest of the world desiring to be “Cuffed” or tied down by a serious relationship. The cold weather and prolonged indoor activity causes singles to become lonely and desperate to be cuffed.”
So essentially, this is playoff season for dating, especially if you’re looking for that special someone to smooch under the mistletoe during the holidays. Whether you’re single, casually dating, or fully “cuffed,” that means it’s time to start planning some epic dates. Lucky for Chicagoans, they live in a pretty awesome hometown in which to date the fall away! If you need date ideas for the season, we’ve got you.
For the intellect
A trip to the Art Institute is never a bad idea, but it can be kind of intimidating to plan! There are so many exhibits, and even more facts about every painting! How can you look good to your date without doing friggen hours of research? It’s too much, we say! That’s why we use Museum Hack, a service that gives behind the scenes tours of the museum. The tours are small enough for an intimate, date vibe, but are still a truly fun and unique experience!
For the hipster (you know who you are)
Can you say, drinks and games and a arcade bar? How about a ping ping bar? Sometimes you want a little more action than the traditional dinner and drinks. So break out your plaid, and head to one of Emporium Beercade’s locations for a round of games. A “beercade” is engaging, lively and fun – bonus points if you let the other person win! If you want to meet after work, SPiN pin pong bar is another great option that’s just steps from the Loop! Show off your table tennis skills, get your heart rate up, and see if you heart feels something else 😉
For the one that’s seen it all
Going on an outing with a longtime local? Bring them somewhere they likely have never been to – one of Chicago’s mysterious “invite only” speakeasies and password-protected bars. Complete with hidden staircases and dim lighting, this is sure to surprise even the most seasoned Chicagoan. Need ideas? Safehouse recently came to Chicago, and is the spy bar we all need in our lives. You’ll have to know the secret password, but once you’re inside, the drinks and delicious food will have you looking like an all star to your date.
Or, for a fun day date, tour cool coffee shops and cafes! There are so many little spots that are local favorites that no one has time to try them all. Our recommendations are Pickwick Coffee Roasters (perfect for those who love twinkly lights and/or Harry Potter), Heritage General Store (this one is a classic but should never be forgotten) and Bar Siena’s Bombo Bar (make sure to get dessert with your coffee!)
For the sports star
Chicago has #tons of museums, but lots of people miss the Chicago Sports Museum in Water Tower. It has thousands of square feet of interactive games, cool Chicago sports memorabilia, and exhibits on important events like the Cubs World Series win in 2016. If you, or your guy, are really into sports, this is your spot! It’s also a fun first date or group date, because there is plenty to do, so you’ll never be bored or have awkward silences.
For the foodie
First date with a serious food-lover? Up the ante! Happy hour is fun, but not that original. Instead, meet for craft cocktails at your favorite spot. It’s still less formal than a full dinner, but shows more investment than just picking the cheapest drink spot around. Our favorite spots right now are The Moonlighter (just opened in Logan Square and they have rosé shots!), and Ronero’s Esco Bar in the West Loop (a sexy fun vibe that will make you look like a date all star).
For the wanderluster
Take a night, and “visit” another country with truly authentic food from that location. For a quick trip to Japan, try out Kizuki Izakaya Ramen for seriously the BEST ramen in the city (you can get broth refills) and delicious lite bites. If you want some French romance, Mon Ami Gabi has been a Chicago staple for years, and you’ll love the decadent cuisine.
Or, take a staycation! We recently stayed at The Robey in Wicker Park, and everything from the food to the view gave us major heart eyes 🙂 Check out our Insta feed for more proof! This is the perfect spot for a more serious relationship to get a little extra romantical.
