There is something about fall that makes you want to savor every last minute of sunshine. The air gets crisp, but it’s still light out and just warm enough to sit outside and have one last cocktail in the fresh air. Thank goodness there are easy and tasty cocktail recipes for the season!
Before the winter weather hit, I ventured to a friend’s lake house for one more (almost) summer weekend away, and found myself put in charge of drinks for the trip. My friends know I love whipping up a good cocktail, and I did not want to disappoint. So I chose classic Dewar’s 12 Scotch Whisky and the previously lesser-well known Disaronno for my bases. These dark liquors still have a touch of summer sweetness to them and my friends loved the transitional tastes for our getaway.
Simple, but delicious. We loved sitting on the front porch and drinking these after dinner..
- 1 ½ oz. DISARONNO
- 1 oz. lemon juice (fresh squeezed if you can)
- ½ oz. simple syrup
- Lime wheels
Add all ingredients into a mixing glass with ice. Shake for 10 seconds. Strain into a rocks glass with ice. Garnish with limes. If you want it to be a little fresher, add even more lemon juice for a tart kick of sweetness.
DEWAR’S HONEYSUCKLE SOUR
This is the perfect afternoon or happy hour cocktail that’s refreshing but not overpowering…
- 1 ½ oz. DEWAR’S 12 Blended Scotch Whisky
- 2 oz. pressed apple (we used local apple juice)
- 1 wedge fresh lime
- Top with ginger ale or ginger beer
Squeeze wedge of lime over cubed ice in a small tumbler glass. Add DEWAR’S 12 and pressed apple juice and top with ginger ale or ginger beer. We garnished with an apple slice for extra fall festivity!
DISARONNO ITALIAN SANGRIA
After tasting this recipe, we might never go back to standard sangria! This was our morning cocktail of choice for the whole weekend…
- 1 oz. DISARONNO
- 2 oz. Pinot Grigio (more if you’re a wino)
- 1 oz. pineapple juice (could also use a mixed juice or even a tropical flavor like papaya)
- .75 oz. lemon juice
- Fruit for garnish
Add all ingredients into a mixing glass with ice. Shake for 10 seconds. Pour contents into a wine glass. Fill with ice. Garnish with citrus slices.
