We’ve officially made it through January, aka our self-improvement month, and also the coldest month we’ve all ever experienced in our lives. Apparently, you guys really like self-improvement, because we had our highest month of traffic in L&C history! So thanks for helping us kick of 2014 with a bang.
But now, on to February, which is actually one of my favorite months of the year.
First and foremost, it means January is 11 months away. Plus, it’s the start of fashion month! New York, London, Paris, Milan…can’t wait to see it all (the shows AND the street style). It’s also Valentine’s Day, and regardless of whether you plan to celebrate it by going on a date, having a girls’ night, hanging out with your mom, or boycotting it altogether…now through February 14, your local Walgreens, Target and CVS will be carrying the BEST selection of chocolates that they will have all year. Which is something to be very happy about.
Last but not least…February is also my lucky month. I’ve gotten some of my best career opportunities in February. And it’s the month I met my husband (five years ago this year!). It was poorly timed, because I met him the week after Valentine’s Day, but at that point in my life I didn’t really care about Valentine’s Day, because I actually went to my very first NYFW show on V-Day that year. It was a Saturday…I remember it all very clearly.
It was the Adam Lippes A/W 2009 show, and I got the invite from a friend who was handling the PR.
So here I am, at Bryant Park. Clearly, this was pre-instagram, or I would have filtered the heck out of this photo of myself, below.
I took my friend Tina with me, and we originally had standing room tickets. But right before fashion shows start, the people in standing room are allowed to fill in the seats of anyone who didn’t show up, so we managed to sit in the third row, and even got gift bags. Not bad for first-timers.
My now-husband Mark and I met a week later, at a bar in New York ( pure luck), because he liked the flower in my hair and was brave-enough (aka five beers deep) to tell me so. It was all very romantic, let me tell ya’. Here we are, on our wedding day in October 2012.
This is the day before Hurricane Sandy. October is my second-luckiest month.
Aaanyway, stay with us for the next four weeks, because we’ll be doing lots of posts around New York Fashion Week, street style, and trends from the shows, plus Valentine’s Day gift guides, interviews with a few of our favorite fashion moguls, our very first beauty how-to, and more!
