June was a big month at L&C. We interviewed some women we seriously admire, we stepped outside of our comfort zones, and we had more readers in June than ever before (thanks for reading, whoop whoop)!
The big thing I tried in June? Posing for outfit photos. I might be a blogger, but I’ve never done the whole “outfit” thing (aside from neck-down #OOTD mirror selfies, which I’m into), because I generally just feel awkward and uncomfortable posing in front of a camera. When I was asked to represent Boston in Glam Media’s “United States Of Style” series for July I–which required me to take an outfit photo in front of a Boston landmark, hence the shot above in front of the Massachusetts State House–I figured I’d give it a shot. And let me tell you, it is WAY harder than it looks. For the first round of pics, I asked my husband to take a few shots of me at the Christian Science Center early one Sunday morning. That did not go well, and those photos are now in my trash folder, where they shall stay forever. So then, I enlisted my friend Laura Saur from LoSoFancy to help me out. She told me to bring props (a bag, sunglasses, a jacket), and to meet her in the park. There, she coached me though what was probably the second most painful photo session ever, but she was so awesome at helping me look just a liiiiittle less uncomfortable, and giving me direction on how to pose. Clearly, from the outcome, I still could use some practice, but believe it or not, her photos were much better than my first try, and I am so thankful to her for taking me under her wing. Anyway, I’m just glad it’s over, and if you want to see more outfit photos, head over to her blog, because I don’t plan to incorporate them in L&C any time soon 🙂 I’m proud of myself for trying, though!
It was also a big month for me, personally: the hubs and I bought a house! A real one with a driveway and a yard, about 15 miles south of Boston in a town called Hingham. We’re set to move in mid-July. It will be the first time I haven’t lived in the middle of a big city since I was 17. It’s also a huge commitment for me, because I have a tendency to move every 12-18 months or so. I’m a little nervous, but also SO excited. I can confidently say I’m ready for a change … and I seriously cannot wait to decorate. Which means stay tuned for house updates, tours, and DIY projects (I think that will be our theme for August …) We’re also becoming landlords, since we’ll be renting out our condo in South Boston. Basically what I’m trying to tell you is that in June, I became a real adult. Holy Sh*t.
So what’s on tap for July. Well, because we’re in the middle of summer, Nicole, Kaleigh and I have unanimously decided we’d like to write about our favorite summer topic: eating and drinking, preferably on a patio, especially if it overlooks a city street or the water. We’re going to focus on our favorite summer recipes, throwing fab cocktail parties, healthy snacks for the beach that won’t make you look bloated, our favorite restaurants, etc. Plus, our regularly scheduled programming like Women We Love, and We Tried It (perhaps I will do one called ‘We Tried It: Moving to the Burbs’). Stay tuned, and keep reading!
