It’s wedding season, which means every soon-to-be-bride is thinking about her beauty regime. You spend a lot of time making sure everything is perfect – and getting glowing skin should be on the list! But beautiful skin doesn’t have to be time consuming or expensive.
Instead of relying on expensive creams or makeup to do the job, making your skin glow from the inside out can be cheap, easy, and way more effective. Because really, the foundation to flawless skin is not foundation – it’s taking care of yourself.
Here, a few tried-and-true tips for a getting gorgeous glow for your big day.
Drink Lemon Water
There isn’t an easier thing you can do for your skin and overall wellness than drinking lemon and water. In addition to a slew of other health benefits like boosting your immune system, aiding in digestion, and providing crucial vitamins & minerals like zinc, potassium and vitamin C – lemon water is truly a gold mine when it comes to beautiful skin.
Skin Benefit: The antioxidants in lemon help clear your skin of acne (and those hard to get rid of blackheads).
Tip: Squeeze ½ half of a lemon into 8-16 ounces of warm water in the morning. Drink this before you put anything else in your body (like coffee) and your skin will thank you!
Hydrate, Hydrate, Hydrate
Wedding planning can be fun, but a few hours on Pinterest and 3 glasses of wine later, you’ve dehydrated your body – and your skin. We all know the “eight, 8-ounce glasses of water a day” rule – it’s a tough one to stick by but something brides-to-be should be mindful of.
Skin Benefit: We know we don’t have to tell you this one, but water hydrates your cells, keeping your skin supple. No bride wants dull skin on her wedding day – need we say more?
Tip: Try infusing your waters with fruits and herbs (like these recipes) to give extra flavor to your water throughout the day. Bonus: eating water-packed vegetables like celery, cucumber and peppers are another sneaky way to get water into your system.
Eat Your Fruits and Veggies
There are certain skin beautifying-foods that nature has graced us with – so use them!
Skin Benefit: Super antioxidants like blueberries, blackcurrants, sweet potatoes, kiwi fruits and oranges are packed with Vitamin C that produces collagen and strengthens the capillaries that supply the skin. Tomatoes are full of lycopene & selenium that stimulates circulation and help protect against sun damage. Dark, leafy greens like kale, spinach and arugula are KING when it comes to achieving that glow. These greens help detox the skin and provide crucial vitamins and minerals.
Tip: Don’t have time (or the stomach) to eat pounds of greens every day? Try juicing. Cold-pressed juices from brands like Blueprint, Montauk Juice Factory, and even Starbucks, pack up to six lbs. of greens into 12 oz. bottles.
Don’t Go Nuts
With wedding planning that is – but you SHOULD eat them!
Skin Benefit: Nuts and seeds contain essential fatty acids that help your skin produce natural oils and maintain its moisture. Hemp seeds, walnuts, almonds and flax are good to keep in your repertoire when eating your way to glowing skin.
Tip: Sprinkle nuts and seeds on top of your salad, add them to your smoothies, or layer them on top of yogurts and oatmeal for breakfast.
Back Away From The Sugar
You may know that sugar isn’t good for your body in general – but did you know if affects your skin?
Skin Benefit: When sugar is ingested, it causes inflammation in the body. Inflammation produces enzymes that break down collagen – which means sagging skin and more wrinkles. Furthermore, sugar can worsen acne and rosacea.
Tip: Study up on what’s really in the food your eating, and if you can – avoid processed foods and sweets. There are 57 different names that sugar can hide behind on an ingredient list, so make sure to take a second look at your food products next time you’re are the store.
