There are few things we love more than cupcakes, especially from Chicago’s Sweet Mandy B’s. But something that could top such treats would be a whole day dedicated to those cupcakes, and all the other delicious food coming from Chicago’s culinary scene. Chef Sherrie Tan from the dessert destination, alongside over 50 other Chicago chefs, will be joining Food Network Magazine to present all all day culinary masterpiece this month: Food Network in Concert at Ravinia.
Food Network Magazine presents Food Network in Concert at Ravinia on Saturday, September 20th, which is an all day event at the concert grounds with an array of culinary and musical treats, all benefitting Share Our Strength’s No Kid Hungry® campaign to end childhood hunger in America.
The No Kid Hungry campaign is ending childhood hunger in America by ensuring all kids get the healthy food they need, every day. The charity is the exclusive national charity partner for Food Network in Concert at Ravinia and supports programs like school breakfast and summer meals and programs. This is a cause near and dear to many a chefs heart, including Tan, who says their goal is simple: “That no child should experience hunger in our country.”
So it’ll be both delicious fun and help for a good cause!
The benefit extravaganza of a day will feature popular Food Network stars, including Iron Chefs and Chopped judges Alex Guarnaschelli, Marc Murphy and Geoffrey Zakarian to name a few. There will also be 50 of the country’s most respected chefs, including many from Chicago! Chefs Andrew Zimmerman from Sepia and Paul Virant from Perennial Virant will join other Windy City favorites including Bill Kim (bellyQ), Chris Marchino (Spiaggia), Erling Wu-Bower (Nico Osteria), Fabio Viviani (Siena Tavern) and more to serve up some of their most well-known recipes. If you get thirsty, don’t worry, famed sommelier Alpana Singh from Boarding House and mixologist Paul McGee of the infamous Three Dots and a Dash will be on hand as well.
But this event isn’t just for foodies! In addition to Grammy Award-winning artist John Mayer, who will headline the event, attendees can look forward to music from “American Idol” winner Phillip Phillips, as well as DJ Alexandra Richards, and indie rock band California Wives, among many others.
But back to the food! One of the tastings we are most looking forward to is obviously our Chicago favorite, Sweet Mandy B’s, which will be sampling their Magic Cookie bar. It has a graham cracker crust with alternating layers of coconut, condensed milk, chocolate chips, butterscotch chips and pecans (drool). This is one of the bakery’s best selling desserts, which is saying something given that Tan says the spot has a “huge selection of different treats that are all made fresh and executed perfectly.”
“Every season brings new flavors and techniques that we want to bring into the bakery,” Tan explains. “Fall is the one of our favorite time of the year. We are looking forward to creating new desserts with a fall twist.”
So sample at the event, then stop at your new favorite (or old sweet spot) for more!
