Pastels aren’t just for Easter- these pretty shades are a spring staple that will transition easily into the summer months. And while those baby blues, lavenders and creamsicles have long graced the pages of my People Stylewatch magazines the past couple of months, those of us stuck on the East Coast and Midwest are still battling Mother Nature and her winter woes. Luckily, horse-racing has proven to be a clutch excuse to bust out those colorful hues, throw on a big hat and call it a day! With the Kentucky Derby on our minds, we’ve put together 3 ways to pair pastels that can be perfect if you’re a house party, Derby party or even Churchill Downs, we’ve got the inspiration for you!
1. Keep It Simple
Pastels may be the subtler cousins to some popping colors, it’s still essential pair your chosen shade with a simple color, jewels and shoes. Nude pumps are always my go-to with pastel shades and I’m clearly an outfit-repeater so these bad boys are making an appearance in all three outfits (no shame in my game).
2. Dress It Up
If your plans include Mint Julips, chances are you should throw on a dress. I’m especially obsessed with Vineyard Vine’s dress collection for pastel preppy that’s made for a day like Derby (especially this one!).
3. When In Doubt, Accessorize It Out
Not to contradict my earlier statement, but some accessories are crucial to completing an outfit. With solid color blocking, a statement necklace is a sure-fire way to up the ante when it comes to pastels.
