From a functionality standpoint, there’s no better summer hairstyle that the ponytail. It keeps you cool, it’s easy to wear and even easier to do. From a style standpoint, however, the average ponytail has never exactly been on the same plane as the fishtail braid or the salon blowout.
Until now, that is. Because we got the hair experts at Salon Mario Russo in Boston to share their step-by-step guide to the Perfect Ponytail. Their version is cute, it’s bouncy, it’s fun, and it only takes a few more steps than the plain, boring version.
Ladies, meet your new morning routine.
1. Curl hair with a wide-barrel curling iron or opt for a straighter yet full pony by blow drying hair with a large round brush.
2. Slightly tease hair at the top of head to give the style some height.
3. Pull hair into ponytail
4. Use a rat tail comb to loosen and pull up the teased portion of hair that may have been flattened when you secured the ponytail.
5. Use texturizing spray to make the ponytail look fuller and more textured. (Mario Russo’s pick is Oribe Dry Texturizing Spray).
Done and Done!
**Side note: If you live in Boston, stop into Salon Mario Russo and purchase a package of Emi Jay hair ties, and they’ll style your hair into the Perfect Ponytail fo’ free! Sweet.
