Summer in Chicago is all about rooftop bars and happy hour spots. Since we supposedly only get 100 days of summer (thanks for nothing Bravo), we spend every sunny minute of it enjoying our city to the fullest, and one of our favorite spots to do that is at 52eighty at the MileNorth Hotel. And the love seems to be mutual! Because this month the rooftop lounge and restaurant will feature a special cocktail called The Lux in our honor, designed specially by our Chicago editor Kaleigh Glaza! And she’s here to give us all the bubbly details alongside Social Media Director for 52eighty/MileNorth Hotel, Nicole Regan.
Chicagoans, I have your new favorite city rooftop!
52Eighty is a true oasis in the middle of the city. With great skyline views that are literally right off the Magnificent Mile, this is the perfect spot for an after work drink for Chicago natives or a place to crash and dine after a touristy shopping trip.
And each month, alongside the daily menu of cocktails and light bites like a to-die for sliders, there will be a little taste of a local Chicago media mind in their new “Local Libation” menu, which launched in June. This month it’s a featured sip of L&C style which (hopefully) will provide a sassy but sweet taste of summer.
I met with Regan the 52eighty staff in June to plan out the taste profile of my drink and then (oh darn!) taste a number of varieties before selecting my ideal combination of flavors. Working with their team of bartenders to find the perfect combination of flavors was so fun, and just as Regan promised, they made it look so easy to whip up a slew of drinks.
But the final product was a dream for my taste buds. The Lux will be comprised of St. Germaine, Amaretto, Lemon Juice and Peach Puree, and its garnish will alternate between edible orchids and violets for the perfect little pop of color.
“As a champagne lover myself, it is spot on for summer,” Regan says. “I especially love the edible orchid garnish and it is quite refreshing. Not to mention oh so Instagrammable!” (that’s her photo above right!)
Other menu favorites of Regan’s are their charcuterie boards and the Salmon Parfait and PB&J Frois Gras, both of which were recently featured in CS Magazine. In terms of drinks, she is recently on a Negroni kick and so loves a twist on a classic Italian-style cocktail whenever she’s not popping the bubbly.
The champagne will be flowing all summer long at the rooftop bar though, including an event on July 23rd that’s all about pink! At the #YESWAYROSE event guests will receive a complimentary pair of floral shades with any stemmed flute purchase from their “Rose’ Garden” (otherwise known as their sparkling Rose Menu).
And for any outdoor events you might be hosting at home, Regan’s advice is simple, “Get excited! If you aren’t looking forward to your own party, no one else will either.”
