The last week has been the tastiest one of the year in the Second City, but Chicago Restaurant Week still has a few delicious days left! And while I have been traversing the city looking for the best deals and meals around (Summer House Santa Monica and Tavernita have been a few favorites), I want to share these additional last minute recommendations for #CRW treats to make sure you get your forks on before it’s all over on Thursday.
Embeya might be best in the summertime, thanks to their picturesque patio, but this Thai spot is delicious in any weather! Dubbing their CRW menus a “2 Weeks of Feast” there are restaurant classics like the braised pork belly, but also sweetly unexpected items like the caramelized brussel sprouts side or roasted pineapple dessert. Voted one of Esquire Magazine’s Best Restaurants of 2013, this is one place not to be missed!
The lesser known Nana Organic (not to be confused with Naha in River North) is participating in their first ever CRW and has put together a great Latin-infused menu of organic and locally sourced delicacies. I am especially excited to try the avocado fries and “grilled laughing bird shrimp & oyster po’ boy” but there are options for every diet and palette here. Just south of the loop, you can also arrange for family style dinners even after CRW is over.
Public House has always been a L&C favorite and their CRW menu does not disappoint, as usual. With “Multiple Choice Mac n’ Cheese” appetizer (below) and Cinnamon Apple Cake that is melt in your mouth delicious, you will want to wear your stretchy pants to this dinner. I might still grab the calamari and/or mussels off of the regular menu as well, but then again my eyes are always bigger than my stomach when I dine here.
For a fancier feel, Cafe de Architectes in the Sofitel Chicago Hotel is offering a clean cut menu of classics and customer favorites, from Lake Superior whitefish with lobster bisque to champagne glace (ice cream) for dessert. The central location and gorgeous interior make this spot perfect for impressing an out-of-town guest without breaking the bank.
And though not officially a CRW deal, Blaze Pizza will certainly be a hot spot on Thursday night for DePaul patrons. Any DePaul student who brings their school ID into the delicious fire grilled pizza place will receive a FREE pizza on Thursday night. This California chain is new to Chicago, but is going to be taking the nation by storm with it’s fresh taste and customized toppings. On their last daily giveaway, Blaze handed out over 1200 personal pizzas, so be sure to stop by the Lakeview restaurant with your DePaul ID on Thursday!
Happy eating Chicago!
