It’s gonna be a long hot summer, we should be together…at a much needed staycation! Seriously, summer can be exhausting, thanks to plenty of travels, weddings, and outdoor activities. It’s still definitely the best time of the year in Chicago though, so when you decide to give yourself a break, you shouldn’t travel far to relax and indulge! Instead of paying for yet another plane ticket, book at night at a local hotel and treat yourself to a good time. We did that recently at Hotel Felix in River North, and (we have to say), it was pretty delicious…
First off, the central location of Hotel Felix makes it easy to check in after work on a Friday. Book your staycation to start on Friday, and you’ll have something to look forward to all work week long! After check-in pop over to their Big Shoulders Coffee Shop for an afternoon coffee (and donut of course!) Big Shoulders is a local coffee shop, based in West Town, that prides itself on roasting its beans onsite to provide the best, and boldest flavors. Pair your cup of joe with a Do-Rite Donut (I love all the Old Fashioned flavors!) for more local love. It will make any last to-dos for the week a whole lot sweeter.
Then you deserve some much needed spa time! After all, you are treating yourself! The week is officially over, and the weekend can begin! Luckily, in addition to food, we found a perfect spa experience nestled within Hotel Felix as well. Intimate, but relaxing, with all the #treatyoself amenities you could want…You won’t want to leave! Also, if you’re trying to be smart with your money, the spa treatments are often found on Groupon. So get that massage AND a facial, instead of making yourself choose.
Once you’re nice and relaxed, and have forced yourself to take off that cozy spa robe, have a lingering meal on the intimate Taketei Sushi patio. Confession time: We did not even know this location existed, despite already being fans of their Edgewater location. Knowing their is also a fresh and authentic sushi bar right in the heart of the hotel made us fall even more in love. In the summer, definitely sit on the patio, but if you like getting in on the action, you can also sit at the sushi bar and watch the chef work. Their staff is beyond knowledgeable, fun and attentive. Make sure to try the Spicy Tuna Deluxe, Dragon and Green Turtle Rolls! We also found a new love of sparkling sake over dinner as well.
Did you wake up refreshed? We thought so! Before you leave your dreamy staycation behind, grab brunch (complete with bottomless mimosas!) at Troquet River North. It’s connected to the hotel, but with those few steps, you can take a quick trip to Paris! The French bistro provides favorites of the country’s cuisine like the Croque Monsieur sandwich and Moules Marinières (that’s a delicious mussels dish, for those who don’t speak French). However, it’s the cocktails that really stole our heart. Aside from the mimosas, which pair perfectly with their crispy french fries by the way, a favorite was the Midweek Weekender.
The restaurant is open for breakfast, lunch, dinner and brunch throughout the week! Also be sure to check out the “Passport to Huron,” which is now available at the Felix Hotel! For only $39, you can get charcuterie at Troquet, a Chef’s Specialty Roll at Taketei Sushi and then head over to the hotel next door for tiramisu at Dolce Italian and Rainbow Sangria at IO Godfrey and The Godfrey Hotel Downtown.
