It seems as though swiping left or right could be replaced with a new hyper-speed dating app called Cheekd. The app gives users the ability to never miss a connection thanks to cross-platform low energy Bluetooth technology, which fosters hyper local engagement. Basically, meaning a phone must best connected to Bluetooth and location services must be activated for potential matches to be located.
Lori Cheek, CEO and founder of Cheekd was determined to take her business to the next level, so she did what any business-savvy individual would do – apply to be on ABC’s Shark Tank.
In September 2013, Cheek found herself walking down that shark-infested hallway into a stare off with five of the harshest millionaire investors in the world. Her hope – walk away with $100,000, her reality – five “I’m out’s” and no money. But the passionate entrepreneur didn’t let that stop her. After the airing of her episode in February of 2014, Cheekd.com received 100,000 unique visitors, as well as countless emails from individuals looking to invest in the company.
I downloaded the app to see what it was all about and was prompted with all your normal run-of-the-mill dating profile questions. Like Tinder, Cheekd asks you to connect through Facebook to authenticate your identity and prevent any catfish-potential situations. In order to start a conversation the interest must be mutual which can be determined based off of shared interests.
This app seems to set its self apart from other apps because it gives you the option to interact with a match before starting a virtual relationship with the compatible user. After setting up your page and what you’re looking for, Cheekd will then send you notifications when a potential match is within 30 feet of you.
Instead of encouraging users to continue to hide behind a screen, Cheekd pushes you to engage in social settings while paying attention to potential matches in the area. This dating app gives us the power to light the spark face-to-face first and leave the talking for later.
Although the app is still growing and when I activated my account there were no potential matches in the area, I don’t think it will be long until everyone is out and about getting “cheeky.”
