It’s time to get cozy people! The phrase “home for the holidays” comes from a very true place, so make sure your home is ready for the holidays! And as much as we love all the new decor at major retailers, we have been making a concentrated effort lately to buy from small artisans. It’s awesome to be able to have items with a story on display when guests come over. So, if you don’t want to have the same department store things that everyone else will this holiday season, go global! GlobeIn is an online marketplace specializing in international, fair trade home, fashion and beauty items. And they have been helping us out with all the inspiration and good feels this month.
GlobeIn has everything from home decor like gorgeous flatware and accent pieces to cleansers and lotions your medicine cabinet will love. Plus, you know they’re being made by true artists and coming direct from those sources to your newly festive home! Liza Moiseeva, the Co-Founder of GlobeIn, is giving us her expert tips for decorating your home this holiday
How do you source the products on your site?
GlobeIn is a verified member of the Fair Trade Federation as are many of our partner organizations who we source products from. We do get to travel the world and meet artisans in person too! We also work with our artisan partners on exclusive products when we come up with a product idea and artisans create it from scratch!
Why should we all shop small, even if it’s from international vendors?
Handmade products have SO much more meaning behind them! Imagine knowing EXACTLY who made your handwoven rug or even your coffee mug? With all GlobeIn products, you also know that your every purchase is empowering remote artisans around the world who are able to build a better life for themselves and their families through fair wages.
What are some of your favorite products on the site?
Ilocano Asin Sea Salt: I am obsessed with this salt! I cook with it and sprinkle it on almost every dish I eat.
Handblown Wine Glasses: These glasses are not only gorgeous but also very durable and don’t break as easy, which I appreciate.
Malika Round Pasta Bowl: This dish is painted by hand by artisans in Tunisia. The design’s blue and purple hues add a perfect pop of color to my otherwise bland kitchen. Now I am slowly building my own kitchen collection around this design (called “Malika”).
How can we add pops of color and personal touches throughout our home?
Start with a clean slate: Choose neutral tones for your walls and furniture and then don’t be afraid to get creative with colors and designs for your accessories, wall decor, pillows and rugs! In my living room I have a Mexican rug, handwoven vase from Rwanda, and blanket from India and they all go well together!
What are small updates in decor that can make a big impact?
Pillows! I love pillows. You can (almost) never have too many of them. Also: wall decor makes a huge difference. Mirrors can make your space look much bigger, which is great for small apartments.
What are some home decor trends we should look out for this season?
Air plants! I love them! They are super trendy right now and provide an easy touch of greenery and sophistication. In general, all things “artisanal” is becoming more and more mainstream as is “mindful” shopping: when you know the maker behind every product in your home and that he was paid fairly for his work.
What is the most important room in the house in your opinion?
Living room. It’s the “face” of our home. For my family it’s a place where we spend most of our time, we eat there, we watch TV and read there. It is also the place where we gather with our friends.
