Is your apartment looking a bit tired but you don’t have $10,000 lying around to furnish it the way you want? Great! Because I’m back for another round of “The Best Stuff on Craigslist”! I’ll dig, you shop, and we all save money (me, by scratching my constant itch to search for thrifted furniture, and you because you won’t have to spend a whole month’s salary at West Elm!)
Here we go:
This is probably one of the most popular styles of coffee tables out there at the moment, and if you were to purchase is new at Room & Board it would cost around $1,400.
I’ve actually wanted these guys for myself for a while now so they may or may not be gone when you click that link up there (so much for me saving money!). But $80 is a great price for a pair of lames considering at most mass retailers you’ll be lucky to get one for that price.
Excuse me, THREE solid wood pieces of furniture for $225? Makes me almost want to go out and rent a storage unit so I can purchase this and sell it at a higher price…The dresser and side table look to be in good condition, but there’s no photo of the mirror. I wouldn’t put all of these in one room, since it might start to look a little grandma’s attic-y. Instead, I’d do the dresser as a dining room buffet, the end table as a nightstand, and if the mirror was any good, I’d maybe paint it black and hang it above the buffet.
West Elm Origami End Table, Best Offer
You know what words I love to hear? (Or read, I guess?) “Make an offer.” The seller listed the new purchase price of $375, so I’d say $200 wouldn’t be unreasonable!
This tulip-style table is a classic silhouette, and even the Ikea version will run you much more than $60. Plus, this table is perfectly sized for Chicago apartments that are small on space, and I’ve always found you can cram more people around a round table than a rectangular one.
Large Gold Mirror, $225
So this is a bit on the pricey side for a mirror, but if you consider the fact that the Chinoiserie /Art Deco-esque gold frame isn’t something you’re going to see just anywhere, which makes it kind of like an art piece, the price feels a lot more warranted. Plus, this is Craigslist, and everything is negotiable.
These would be cute at dining room chairs, or in a living area with a sofa or settee. I’d put a throw pillow on one and a sheepskin on the other. Boom.
West Elm Hamilton Sofa, $1950
OK, OK, so I have a thing for West Elm this month. This is the last piece from there, promise. But this sofa is awesome, and in a camel shade of leather that’s right on trend. The ad says it’s been sat on twice, and the original price was $2399.
Lucite is pretty trendy, and if it ever goes out of style (I think it has years of staying power, personally), you’ll sleep well knowing you bought this table for only $100.
Happy shopping! & Let me know if you buy anything 🙂
