There are few things I love more than a good Craigslist find, especially when it’s of the furniture variety. There’s something about finding what you want for a fraction of the price and picking it up from a random stranger that is downright thrilling to me. It’s wallet-friendly AND eco-friendly, and a little bit risky, too. What’s not to love?
I’m pretty proud of my thriftiness, so I share photos of almost everything I buy on my Instagram account (@kaitmadden), and I’ve been getting lots of comments on my finds. So I’ve decided that means I have a knack for online bargain hunting, and I’m going to put it to good use. Long story short, I’ve decided to put together a list of the best Chicago finds on Craigslist every few weeks, since ain’t nobody got time to sort through the hundreds of old La-Z-Boy’s posted every day to find the good stuff (except for me, apparently). Here goes round one:
I love that this is a brass bar cart I haven’t seen everywhere. Plus, it folds up if you don’t want to make it a permanent fixture in your house.
How cute would this be at the end of a bed? The ad says the faux-fur upholstery is a recent addition, which makes it a lot more appealing since you won’t have to wonder what you’ll find stuck in the hairs.
I’ve admired these tables since they came out last year. The wood or marble versions are still available at West Elm, but will run you $200+.
Ok, ok, so this dresser doesn’t look like much at the moment. But you have to have a little vision when you’re shopping with Craig. Sand paper, chalk paint, and some new knobs (Target actually has an amazing selection of furniture knobs at the moment), and this dresser will be the highlight of your bedroom.
I’m not usually a fan of buying upholstered furniture on Craigslist because you never know how it’s going to smell. But, this sofa is perfect for an apartment, just a year old, looks to be in great condition, and the seller says they’re willing to negotiate price. Go on, offer $395, spend $4 on Febreeze and bag yourself a new sofa for under $400.
This one’s for all the mammas-to-be out there! I LOVE THIS CRIB. I was torn between this one and the one I ended up buying for my son. It normally retails for $600. As someone whose kid currently spends mornings chewing on the crib rail can tell you: save a few bucks and buy secondhand. It’ll eventually get chewed on.
It’s cute, it’s contemporary, and anytime you can get IKEA stuff that’s already built, you’re coming out ahead amirite?
Twenty bucks! For a 27″ round mirror? Total steal considering you’d probably pay $200 + in a store.
This table is a little pricey for a Craigslist piece, but it’s gorgeous and so on trend right now. Plus, I’ve seen similar tables in high-end showrooms for thousands more!
Now get your bargaining skills ready and send out some inquiries. Let me know if you end up taking any of these beauties home!
