Last Friday, we had a chance to pop by the Ulta store on Clybourn Ave, where one of our favorite Chicago ladies, Jess Keys, was hosting a fabulous launch event for Estée Lauder. Given how gorgeous Ms. Keys is and the activity of the day–Estee Lauder‘s national makeup artist Jocelyn Biga lead a master class–it felt only natural to pry her a bit about her own beauty routine. Here’s what we learned.
WHAT’S YOUR NORMAL BEAUTY ROUTINE?
I’m very minimal. I’d say probably several times a week I don’t put any makeup on and then when I do it’s very natural, so today’s class was totally up my alley, because the no-makeup makeup look is what I go for. I learned a lot of good tricks today that I could be using to elevate the no-makeup makeup look. Because there’s a certain point where it’s a no-makeup look because … you’re not wearing enough makeup.
WHAT WAS THE BEST THING YOU LEARNED FROM TODAY’S MASTER CLASS?
So many things! The concept of mixing your eye cream with your concealer was mind-blowing for me, because I get dry under my eyes sometimes.
WHAT IS YOUR FAVORITE WAY TO EXPERIMENT WHEN YOU’RE FEELING BOLDER?
I always go for the colored lip!
WHAT’S YOUR FAVORITE LIP COLOR?
I actually love the one I’m wearing! It’s the high-luster Vinyl lip color in Burnt.
WHAT’S THE ONE THING IN YOUR MAKEUP BAG THAT YOU’VE HAD FOREVER AND RE-BUY OVER AND OVER?
[Estée Lauder‘s] Advanced Night Repair is one of them, I’ve been using that for years. And an eyelash curler. I always have to have an eyelash curler. Also, and I’m not just saying this, but this mascara that I’m wearing is phenomenal. My eyelashes are stick straight and it actually curled them without a curler. It’s [Estée Lauder’s] Sumptuous Knockout. They normally don’t look like this.
PULLING OFF A NO-MAKEUP MAKEUP LOOK USUALLY MEANS YOU HAVE TO HAVE GREAT SKIN. ARE THERE ANY SKINCARE SECRETS YOU CAN SHARE?
So I use DermaCare, they’re a really cool company that was just started by a dermatologist. You take selfies of your face and upload them to the app. It’s prescription, and then they mix different products into one cream and you only have to put one product on your face. I just started using again and it’s working, but it also dries my skin out at the beginning and my face started peeling. I literally woke up on the day of my engagement party a week ago and my whole face was peeling. So I found this peel from Peter Thomas Roth and it’s the craziest thing. It’s a gel that you put on your face, and it, well it’s disgusting, but all your dead skin balls up and falls off your face. I’ve been doing it every day.
