In a world of uncertainty, there is one thing I know to be true: I will never, ever leave the house without mascara and eyeliner on. Not ever. Without them, I look like I’ve had some sort of allergic reaction and my eyes are about to squint shut at any second. Pale gold eyeshadow, though not as direly necessary, is also something I feel like I need to have on in order to convincingly appear to be awake. I call this trio my wakeup makeup, and combined with a cup of coffee, it can work wonders (or at least make me look like I got eight hours. OK, maybe seven).
So, I was excited to get a chance to try a few of the newest versions of my makeup-routine staples from CoverGirl’s Bombshell collection. First up was the felt-tip liquid eyeliner in chocolate kiss, which is a perfect everyday shade of eyeliner (I find that black can sometimes look a little heavy on me during the day and also have the opposite “wake-up” effect by making my eyes look smaller).
Next, the shadow. All it took was a small dab on my fingertip, tapped into the inner corner of each eye (I always try to get just a liiiittle bit of my lower lash line in there, too). Since I was puttin’ my face on for the workday, I stopped there, but I’m planning to try this shadow blended with a bronze one for nighttime.
Last but not least, the mascara, which I LOVE, because here’s why. I use three mascaras every day. Yes, three. One for lengthening, one for volume, and then a quick swipe of a waterproof version, just to hold things in place. But this mascara actually has two wands, one on each side. The first is for volume, the other is for length. Why someone hasn’t thought of this product before I don’t know, but I’m very happy it exists now.
And just because I’m feeling brave today, here’s a squinty-looking before shot, in which I’m trying really hard to look awake, and a super-close up “after.”
