There are few things I love more than a good spring ski trip. It combines beautiful scenery, an exhilarating workout, and a fancy name for a ritual involving beer and nachos (that would be apres ski, which may or may not be my favorite part of the entire experience … ). The only thing I don’t love about skiing: what it does to my skin. Flying down a mountain in below-freezing temperatures (even in March) while the sun reflects off of the snow and directly onto your face is sort of like a recipe for aging 10 years overnight, but I’ve learned to prepare myself for it with lots of sunscreen, a good moisturizer, and a whole lotta lip balm.
A few weeks back, we introduced a fun new product from Vaseline, Lip Therapy tins. They’re the brand’s classic lip therapy treatments, but re-designed in new, more convenient packaging that’s designed to go anywhere … so I figured my ski trip to Whistler last weekend would be the perfect chance to put that idea to the test.
The typical problems I have with lip balm when I ski are, for one, that it tends to get almost waxy-like in the cold, which is both uncomfortable, and unattractive since the color also turns almost white. The second problem is that lip balm in a tube tends to freeze, and takes a while to unfreeze enough for me to re-apply. I’m happy to report that I had neither of these problems with the Vaseline lip tins. The consistency of the lip balm stayed intact the entire time I skied, and–bonus–it lasted for a couple hours at a time. But what I was even more excited about was the fact that, since the product is in a tin, I didn’t have to worry about it freezing up and becoming unusable — A quick swipe of the finger melted it enough so it went on easily. Yay!
If we’re being totally honest here, what I like the most was the Rose-tinted version. It’s not easy to ski and look cute at the same time, and I appreciated the fact that, after a long day on the slopes, I could enjoy my beer and nachos and look good (okay, halfway decent) doing it.
