We all have one of those people in our lives.
You know, the ones that sneer at us when we tell them we ate canned soup for dinner (again). Or the one with the sickening Instagram account we’re simultaneously drooling over and wondering how they managed to make cauliflower look enticing all at the same time.
And if either of those scenarios sound familiar, they might also be one of those people on your Christmas list. And while we are quite certain they like food, we are obviously not apart of the elite foodie society, and would feel pretty weird wrapping a giant block of cheese. Everybody- even our Foodie friends- have to like cheese, right? But what kind of cheese? Is there special cheese that I don’t know about because I wasn’t inaugurated into the foodie cult? These are the questions I ask while shopping for the foodies in my life.
I accidentally stumbled upon a great freakin’ idea for food lovers while brainstorming low-key date ideas for a weekend my boyfriend was coming into town.
I’m a big fan of experiental gifts; doing something with someone you care about versus buying them something they probably don’t need or can buy themselves. HelloFresh is this and more. Combining the elements of convenience, and fresh, organic ingredients, HelloFresh is the ultimate culinary experience for healthy eaters looking to transform the way they experience food.
It’s a subscription-based food delivery service, and when I found out about it, I decided to give it a whirl.
After perusing the box options, I opted for the classic food box, including 3 meals, which were sent to my house at a designated day and time. Once received, I stored it in my fridge until I was feeling adventurous and hungry enough to make one of these recipes into a gourmet meal.
We decided to tackle the Chicken Schnitzel Sandwiches with with Gruyere and Tangy Red Cabbage Slaw partly because it cooked the fastest and I was borderline hangry, and partly because I was really curious as to what “schnitzel” was. Jonny tackled the chicken, and I managed the slaw. I’m slightly embarrassed to admit that me slicing a shallot, and mixing some vinegar with red cabbage took me just as long as it did for him to cut, dredge (still don’t know what that means) and cook the chicken… but hey, can’t win ’em all.
The sandwiches were quick to make, and the directions easy to follow. Despite being hungry when we started, I’m not sure if I had more fun making or eating our creation (eating, lesbereal). The sandwiches were delicious, healthy, and I wouldn’t have come up with Chicken Schnitzel if I were throwing a lunch together without step-by-step instructions and ingredients that magically appeared in my fridge. You da real MVP, HelloFresh.
If you’re looking for a unique gift for the foodie in your life, wanting to get on board with healthy and convenient recipes in the New Year, or in need of another date night idea, you have to give HelloFresh a shot. I have another box waiting in my fridge for the next time I want to trick my guests into thinking I’ve suddenly become domesticated;)
